When do the polls come out?

Re: Polls/Rankings

They usually come out on USAToday.com first. I've seen them up as early as 1 CST before. It is pretty much random when they actually release.

Rating:
1. Texas - I can understand
2. USC - I CAN NOT understand
3. Penn St - I can, but not really understand...
4. BAMA
5. Oklahoma
6. Florida
7. Georgia
8. Boise St
9. Oklahoma St
10. Ohio State

Any ranking that can place USC in the top 2 at this point should be deemed invalid and removed from the BCS immediately. Is Mel Kiper running that poll? What numbers could it be drawing from?

Remember, the ELO-CHESS doesn't take into account margin of victory. We slip in the over-all rating because it DOES take margin of victory into account (and it should, as it is used by betters and Vegas to decide likely margins of victory). The problem, teams like USC and Penn State have rolled up monster point differentials against teams that would lose to good high schools.

As long as we lead in the ELO-CHESS rating, we are golden...

Sagarin's system does three different rankings:
1 - ELO Chess = only wins matter, margin of victory doesn't.
2 - Predictor = only scoring margin matters, wins don't.
3 - Overall = a composite of the two above.

We do great in the ELO Chess (#1), but not so good in Predictor (#6), which is why we're 4th in the Overall.

It's imporatant to remember that the computers are not rankings, but "ratings". They are purely mathematical models based on statistics and no opinion enters into them.

The only thing I can't find out is what Sagarin bases his K-factor on.
