Because they couldn’t care less about playing time. They will gladly go somewhere and be a “rotational” guy. They don’t care about “creating value for themselves in the NFL. Give me the check.

There is nothing about delayed gratification in any of this.

A lot of that is coming from their upbringing and parents pushing for money.....Ms. Terry even mentioned that when they would host recruits at their house.....said parents would talk to her about how much they would pay them.

Saban wanted the kids to create value for themselves.....and reap the benefits of that....potentially long term.

The kids and parents want the value now, just want to know how much.....short term mentality.

The more I think about his situation, the more perplex I have become. why would he transfer when he has a great shot starting next season? he's been with Bama for 3 years already (redshirt sophomore). this is getting ridiculous.
I would assume it is a simple matter of money. Alabama has assigned a value to his skill set based on production not potential. He is seeking more. That is his prerogative and I don’t begrudge him. It will likely be the only chance in his entire lifetime that he will have a shot at a lump sum this size, other than what Alabama is offering. Of course there are other considerations but they were not as important to him. He has imbibed in the true American spirit. :-)

This will color anything I would ever say about Ty as he as earned undying respect from every Alabama fan. I would not have begrudged him from going for the money, though he would have lost much of the affection he had gained from the Alabama nation. But what can anyone say now, other than a few calloused or jealous cynics?

Thanks Ty, you understand and have paid a real and tangible price. I hope he has a chance to be “naturally” introduced to an Alabama stadium crowd soon.

Ty will probably be “the last true Bama man”. It IS about a legacy. It is about how he wants to be remembered. A young man with an “old man understanding” of character.
In essence, Ty is saying “My character doesn’t have a price tag”.

And I came to the conclusion that 2026 will probably be my last as a dedicated, diehard Alabama fan. Will I still warch games? Maybe for entertainment, but not because I’m emotionally vested in the result. Probably a good thing. I have four grandchildren now that deserve my attention more.

My hope is that, somehow, reason slides into this equation and the “NIL arms race” stops. But I have little faith in that happening.

I simply can’t care about college athletics more than those that participate or run it.
