Game Thread: Monday, Jan. 19, 2025, No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 10 Miami (Fla.) | 7:30 p.m. ET| College Football Playoff National Championship Game (Miami, Fla.) | ESPN

And then Cig has to play the "pay for play" game that everyone else is playing.

It's going to change if he wants to stay at the top. Maybe he's the next "Saban." But I just don't think it is as easy as implementing CNS's tactics. Everybody has been trying that for years.

IF Cig never wins another one. He's a legend at IU. Good for him. I just think the next step of maintaining it will be harder than winning the first.
He's played it the past two years and succeeded. He's not signing star players from big P4 programs. He's identifying talent that others have overlooked and putting them into his system. But if they have to play the big money bidding, they've got Mark Cuban and the one of the largest alumni fanbases in the country. Money isn't going to be a problem for them.

If I had realized before last night that Mark Cuban was in their corner, I would have pulled slightly less for them.

No class - no problem for Miami quarterback Carson Beck.

Several online accounts claimed that Beck did not shake hands with Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza after the 27-21 loss Monday night, and there was footage of the Miami quarterback quickly bolting to the locker room after his devastating game-sealing interception.

================

After watching it back, it’s really hard to tell what happens. The shot that showed on television didn’t even show Mendoza and Beck in the same area. It’s unclear if they shook hands or not.

I think in a regular game they would have, but in national championship games I don't recall both teams always meeting afterward and everyone dapping each other up. The winning team usually is going nuts with each other, the other team is absolutely crushed and the hosting staff is immediately setting up the stage on the field.

adding to yur thought...they only lost 1 fumble ALL YEAR LONG in 16 games??? You could barely do that against "air" for 16 games.

That stat alone (with the other things they did right) is why they are the NCs.

They better enjoy it. Don't see another team like that getting those kinds of breaks. And they also did it in a year without many other great teams. They stuck out "as the best and most disciplined" but against other NC teams from recent years, I think they get routed!!!
And that lost fumble was in the first quarter of their first game.

So? Not lucky. Disciplined.

plus it is much tougher to be the hunted. They will not be underestimated and overlooked.

Did you see Mark Fletcher (who had a great game) sucker punch IU DT Tucker after the game?

"I was just trying to congratulate him on the game," Tucker told The Herald-Times. "He tried to sneak me, everybody kind of held me back. That was a cheap punch, luckily we got the win, I'm not really too worried about it. He's salty, he going home with the L."

In other words......they will fit right in at the next level.......

It’s the game that many people predicted. When it was a pure matchup of physical ability, Miami won more than their share of the battles.

But it’s not just that, it’s a game of discipline and which team makes the fewest egregious mistakes. And Indiana dominated in that category.

lol at trying to congratulate Fletcher. Then why didn’t Fletcher sucker punch anyone else and was seen looking for Mendoza specifically to congratulate him.

Smells like a liar

It's a good thing the game ended before midnight. The ball would have turned back into a pumpkin and Indiana would be dressed in rags again.

But seriously, I'm very interested in seeing what Cignetti puts on the field next year.
Frankly, if he puts together another successful season winning the Big10 and getting into the playoff, and we pull an 8-4 type season averaging 75 rushing yards a game, it might be time to look hard at him. I don’t think I’ve missed anything, DeBoer seems to think there is nothing wrong with our coaching, toughness, or strategy and has made zero coaching changes aside from replacing guys who went elsewhere.

It’s 1988. The Fighting Irish come off a perfect 12-0 season. You walk up to an arrogant, fighting Irish fan and say, “The Hoosiers will win a football national championship before you do again.” What would be their response OR if this question were posed to you in 1988 what would you have said? I was three years old at the time, so I would’ve had no idea what you’re talking about, haha.

Here's a better one.

Imagine telling a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan on December 31, 1983:

"Yeah, you've scored more points than any team in history, you're huge favorites over Miami. I hate to break it to you, but Colorado (4-7), BYU (11-1 WAC), Georgia Tech (3-8), Washington (8-4), AND Florida State (7-5) are all going to win national titles before you do."

For sure - - there was clearly more to the punch -- something that happenned during the game that got Fletcher salty. That is the highly logical/likely explanation.

The patently ridiculous thing I read? That Tucker made a crack about Fletcher losing his dad this year. Tucker lost his mom to cancer this year, and while I'll never know what happened on that field, it is completely illogical and ridiculous to imply that a kid who just lost his mom to cancer was trash talking about Fletcher's dad passing away.

One thing I will never understand is how Rutgers doesn't have more wins. They started this whole thing and almost everyone that came after them has more wins. They claim a title in 1869, but they share it with Princeton.

Is there credible evidence that IU cheated?

I know there was talk that they hacked into other teams systems, which would seemingly be pretty easy to prove in today’s cyber security world.

Were there other allegations and is there credible evidence?
