Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) (part II)

Less than 14% of those arrested by ICE in Trump's 1st year back in office had violent criminal records, document shows
Getting rid of the rapists and murderers doesn’t seem to be as high of a priority as we were told. I guess nannies, cooks, and housekeepers are bigger threats to our society.

It's possible to support the aims of an ICE LEO as it's always been, without supporting what it has become...
That's where I am. I support the goal of ICE, but realize some of their efforts need to be dialed back and more accountability needs to take place. But I also don't think every single arrest they make is unconstitutional or unlawful. Just like with anything, when you have humans involved, you're going to have errors in judgment, bad actors, and there are instances where things aren't done right. It's in every facet of life where humans are involved.

Salient question: "Is the left’s position that foreigners have a right to enter/stay in our country illegally so long as they aren’t convicted of a violent crime?"

I’ll answer it with my view.

As long as we don’t have an over population problem directly because of non violent “illegal” immigrants then yes just leave them be in peace.

Most of them contribute to our society anyway doing jobs for pay that is considered too low for most “legal” people.

I’ve never said we shouldn’t remove violent criminals from US society.

And if that is all that was happening there wouldn’t be such pushback from ‘The Left’.

The problem is they are targeting non violent immigrants or even people who look like immigrants and treating them as if they are violent criminals and in a way that reflects they are thought of as sub-human and are to be removed by any means necessary.

I’ll probably be in the minority in this view and I don’t care.

Humans should treat other humans as equals.

What's idiotic about the question?
Easy. First off all Republicans are idiots. Next, anyone that votes for a Republican is an idiot. Add to that any Democrat that is in favor of deporting criminal illegals. Finally, as icing on the cake, anyone that opposes uncovering the fraud that is rampant in our social programs is an idiot. Did I miss any?

Gotcha, what part of the "discussion" is he misrepresenting about the people he's directing that to? I just took the statement and question at face value, and from that couldn't see anything idiotic about it.
it's a loaded question that rests on an overly simplified premise of what "the left" believes to get to a desired result

Yeah, I noticed he lumped the entire left into one pot. My beliefs about illegal immigration are conservative compared to some on the board. But I do have some friends who are "on the left" whose immigration beliefs are more conservative than mine.

like many on here, i have no problem with enforcing immigration laws. i do have problems with the vicious, lawless, and ham fisted way it’s being done by the administration, which they are justifying in large part by claiming they are going against gangsters and hardened criminals and these means are necessary

And this is fine, but as I just posted there are tons of people on the left that want to just let illegals stay, as long as they’ve not committed any (more) crimes.

I don’t like the way ICE is enforcing the law, either - but I’ve zero issue with people who are here illegally being deported. Just do it with some humanity…

yeah. that's the whole point and the reason desantis' post was bs

But your answer misses the entire point that there is a (seemingly large) segment on the left that’s fine with allowing illegals to stay, regardless as to ICE’s actions - they were saying this (and asking for amnesty) when Biden was in office and left the border wide open.

You don’t like his point, that’s fine. But he’s not wrong that even if ICE went away tomorrow there’s a large percentage of the left that would want to allow illegals to stay.
