other teams get home court advantage. We never have.
And the bad calls just get worse and worse.

My biggest question is why are we so bad on defense

It all boils down to a few factors:
defensive philosophy
needing a new defensive coach
we play defense with our hands and not our feet
we do not have a rim protector, Sherrill gets worn out physically and cannot be expected to play the full 40 minutes. Williamson is a major disappointment.

Wow, what a great game last night. Acuff was unstoppable.

We ended up shooting 56% from the field, 49% for them.

We had 34 FTs to their 19. Huge difference there.

WHAT A GAME!

Maybe the best shooting from both sides I've ever seen. At one point in the second half we were shooting 87% from the field.

That was some smart basketball from CNO in the second half, knowing they were thin to just attack the rim and get them to foul. And Philon is masterful at it...especially with his left hand!

What a win. Good for the fellas. How do you miss that dunk from Arky?!? Had he just tipped it, the ball probably goes in but he wanted his moment with the emphastic dunk.

Harkens back to some early 90s games against the hogs
That's what I was thinking we might see before the game started. Was thinking of 1991-92, Oliver Miller and Todd Day at Arkansas and Horry, Sprewell and Robinson at Bama. Alabama lost in Tuscaloosa (Fayetteville as well) but won the SEC tournament matchup by 1-point in 1992. There were other UA vs UA games in the early 90's as well.

Eric Washington, if I remember correctly!

My first ever game at Coleman. lol. You’re welcome ;). What an amazing game. The crowd was awesome.

That's cool - you picked a good game for it - that's for sure!

I know you are very busy but if you get a few minutes, maybe you could share some experiences of last night. Getting tickets and getting into the coliseum, how was the crowd, the Hog fans, how are the facilities, refreshments, what you enjoyed the most other than the win, and what you didn't like?

Maybe also a couple more pics.

Thanks, CC! ;)

What a great game and win! 117-115 ... a game to remember! Also puts us into a tie for second in the SEC race.
This was a game where both teams played well.

I may get shot for saying this but I happen to like Coleman.
I do also but for a different reason. I played in 2 games there when the HS championships were played there back in the 70’s. I suppose it is the same now as then but we could hear everything the first 2-3 rows of seats said even with the crowd noise. The floor was a rubber floor back then and it had a bounce to it. We won our 1st game and lost in the quarterfinal game in an upset. We were predicted to make it to the semis with an outside chance of winning the whole thing. I got to dress both nights in Major Ogilvie’s football locker. Running out for warmups there was an amazing experience.

After watching the replay, I think about the football post-game threads of "good, bad, and ugly".

The good. We showed we can play better defense than what we normally exhibit. It was obvious in the early part of the second half that our guys became more aggressive - and that's when we closed the gap. Sherrill also showed he can use that huge body as a weapon, especially in the second half. It seems to me that he struggles to "feel" when he's got a defender beat... hope he continues to improve there. We also showed we can win by attacking the rim when our outside shooting is not available. CNO did a good job last night in the second half primarily playing guys who could slash and score. Also, kudos for changing in the second half to a "foul them out" approach. Last, we showed we can win close games and come back from tough deficits in big games - something that has totally abandoned us in recent big games. And we showed heart and escaped with a big win, especially beating them while playing according to their philosophy (limit threes).

The bad. A couple of our guys off the bench - enough said. The refusal to take TO's, especially in the first half. That's been discussed ad nauseam and the team suffers in big games because they're not utilized. Bol Bowen's injury looks to be serious enough it's really hampering his play - hope he can get healed up because we badly need him. Last, we don't have a defensive "stopper" this year. We might not have always liked them offensively, but Mo D or Jaren S from last year (Herb Jones' type) would have locked on to Acuff or Thomas and made the other team members beat us.

The ugly. Our defensive effort for most of the night. At some point if our perimeter defense is this bad, I'd rather them push teams inside like Arkansas did to us last night. Trelly shooting when drifting - with his feet set he's money, but with feet not set he's going to miss nearly every time. Lack of adjustments defensively after their guys started fouling out. For example, in the last 3 minutes of the game, Acuff should have been forced to get the ball out of his hands.

If you're Arkansas, you're happy with the game because you went in shorthanded and almost pulled off the upset. Going forward, you've got to like your chances in a rematch if healthy and on a neutral court. If you're Bama, you're also likewise happy. To play terrible defense most of the night, make very few threes, and give up a career night to Acuff while still walking away with the win is impressive... especially if going forward TBB can get healthier and the perimeter defense can be improved.

Long. But, I think I agree with all of this
