President Trump Delivers 2026 SOTU address & Democratic Response - 2-24-26 at 9pm ET

What I enjoyed most was seeing recognition to those in our country who are heroes.......and they don't always wear capes!

During the State of the Union address, Trump honored 5-year-old Dalilah, a California girl who was severely injured during a crash involving a semi-truck that was driven by an undocumented immigrant. He called on congress to pass the Dalilah Law which would bar any state from issuing commercial driver licenses to undocumented people.

Seems like 100 minites of lies, rants and brags and a waste of time but I guess that was to be expected but I guess it's too much to ask any president to pass up another chance to bloviate on live TV. 🤷‍♀️

President Trump awarded Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskan with the Legion of Merit for Extraordinary Heroism during the State of the Union Tuesday night. Mr. Trump said Ruskan saved an 11-year-old girl during the deadly Texas floods last July.

Another American warrior hero.......

President Donald Trump presented the Medal of Honor to Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover, a helicopter pilot wounded in the operation to abduct Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, during his State of the Union address Tuesday.Trump said Slover planned the mission and was the flight lead in the cockpit of the first helicopter. He said Slover was shot four times in the leg during the mission and is still recovering.

Trump’s transportation secretary says on CNN that Democrats just BLEW IT on “easy issues” when they refused to stand up — and voters noticed.

Jake Tapper had no rebuttal as Sean Duffy handed Democrats a beating for a minute straight.

“I think the question becomes, why doesn’t every Democrat stand up and go, ‘No, we want well-qualified drivers on American roads.’ That’s not partisan… I think those are easy issues, Jake. And I don’t think we saw Democrats stand up and support them.”

“We got some applause for the U.S. Olympic hockey team, but that was probably one of the only bipartisan moments of the night, which I think is too bad.”

“Again, if inflation’s down, Democrats should applaud it. If real incomes are up, Democrats should applaud it. Those are good things that we should support as Americans.

“And just because Donald Trump’s in office doesn’t mean you have to sit on your hands. You should applaud that because that’s good for America.”

I'm still getting caught up, but the optics of last night were bad for Dems. Not as bad as sitting on their hands rather than applauding a kid with brain cancer, but still up there. I know the MAGAs are claiming this as 4D chess and Trump is tricking congressional Dems into exposing themselves for the terrible people they are, but I still ain't buying that. I said elsewhere that Dems and Reps both could learn something from Fetterman.

The hyper partisanship that has evolved over the last 20 years is getting so old. There can't be some common ground? There can't be something that can worked on and everyone get something in a bill? Clinton and Gingrich were able to work together to do some things. Reagan and O'Neil worked on bipartisan bills. Why is it impossible now, and why can't the parties be happy when something happens good for the American people even if the other party is in the WH?

See the link I just posted in the "We are All Americans" thread. It should be close by.

Most of them have constituencies which don't believe inflation is down and incomes up, that it's a bald-faced lie. Had they applauded that which their voters know to be untrue, it would be sure to be remembered...

Fair enough, but I doubt their constituencies value illegals over their themselves. (Polling certainly bears this out.) When Trump asked lawmakers to stand if they prioritize Americans over illegal immigrants and Democrats refused to stand, this was one of the more momentous parts of the SOTU address and one that will be remembered during the mid-term commercials (assuming Republicans don't misplace their shared brain......and they probably will.)

This was seen as a pro/anti ICE behaviors vote. Few voters would be taken in by a "when did you stop beating your wife" question. Both sides understood the code...

Maybe trump needs to STOP LYING so much and attacking dems and Biden constantly with lies. Just because the dems dont react with sycophant cult like approval of all things trump doesn't mean they 'blew it'. I thought it was absolutely disgusting that when trump attacked the SC decision and said he would violate the contitution and ignore congress on tariffs that the Squeaker of the House stood up and applauded along with nearly all Republicans.
He's a disgrace to the office and party.

Hey Republicans who are complaining that Democrats didn't stand and cheer for Trump's lies last night, here are some clips from Biden's 2024 SOTU in which Republicans refused to stand and cheer for these statements:

“No billionaire should pay a lower tax rate than a teacher, a sanitation worker or a nurse.”

“You can’t love your country only when you win.”

“I want to cap prescription drug costs at $2,000.”

Weird.

Honestly ever since the Obama SOTUA in which we heard a guy heckling that the president is a liar I was pretty much done for the event. There really is nothing to see or gain from watching it. It’s just a bunch of patricians acting like fools and pretending that they actually care about us plebs.

Room full of self absorbed millionaires all pandering to the poor (average everyday American) for votes so they can continue the charade of politics that pours more money in their own pockets. News Flash: none of them care about you!
