LGBTQ Issues: What will the public attitude be? (Pt 2)

A 22-year-old woman who identified as a boy in her teen years won a $2 million decision in a landmark lawsuit against New York doctors accused of pushing a double mastectomy on her when she was a minor.

Fox Varian had the life-altering surgery when she was just 16-years-old — getting approval from a psychologist and a surgeon — both of whom a jury found liable of medical malpractice on Jan. 30, The Epoch Times reported.

Varian, now 22 and considered a “detransitioner,” was awarded $1.6 million for past and future pain and suffering, and an additional $400,000 for future medical expenses — in the first detransitioner malpractice lawsuit in the nation to go to trial and win.

The group, which represents plastic surgeons primarily in the U.S., has evolved its stance on the issue. In 2019, the group opposed attempts by states to restrict transition care and said “plastic surgery services can help gender dysphoria patients align their bodies with whom they know themselves to be and improve their overall mental health and well-being.” In August 2024, the group said it was crafting guidance for plastic surgeons, citing “considerable uncertainty” about the long-term benefits for chest and genital interventions.

The new guidance, approved by the association’s board of directors in January, says “there is insufficient evidence demonstrating a favorable risk-benefit ratio for the pathway of gender-related endocrine and surgical interventions in children and adolescents.” It cites “substantial uncertainty” about the long-term benefits and harms of hormones and puberty blockers more routinely prescribed for gender transition, but does not give any specific recommendations for those treatments.
The American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend transition surgeries primarily for adults but say adolescents can receive them on a case-by-case basis.

The AMA appears to now be taking a more cautious stance. A spokesperson for the AMA said Tuesday that “the evidence for gender-affirming surgical intervention in minors is insufficient for us to make a definitive statement” but that it agrees with ASPS that surgeries for minors should be generally deferred to adulthood in the absence of clear evidence.

so, it's not just my imagination that it's conservatives and "independents" who are obsessed with trans folks

Fox News posts more articles on trans people than any media outlet in the country. Even [lgbtq+] ones.

New analysis from trans journalist and researcher Jessica Kant has found that Fox News publishes more articles about trans people than any other media outlet in the country. And that includes LGBTQ+ publications.

The findings bolster what Democrats have long argued, that it’s actually Republicans who are obsessed with trans people and not the other way around. Kant also noted that right-leaning publications produce far more articles on trans people than the mainstream media.

New York, N.Y. – Today, Senator Charles Schumer stood with local leaders following the Trump administration’s outrageous directive to remove the Pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument. He said the removal of the Pride flag from Stonewall National Monument, the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, is a deeply outrageous action that must be reversed. In the wake of the Trump administration’s attempt to rewrite history, stoke division and discrimination, and erase LGBTQ+ community pride, Schumer moved to permanently protect the Pride flag from the administration’s crusade against the LGBTQ+ community.

Some Idaho Republican lawmakers change their votes on gay marriage. Here’s why

A memorial asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn gay marriage lost some support in the Legislature.

Idaho lawmakers voted Tuesday on a rerun of a 2025 memorial asking the nation’s highest court to “overturn” its landmark 2015 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. Gay marriage has been legal in Idaho since 2014 under a federal appeals-court ruling in another case.

But this year, the proposal got two more no votes in the House than in 2025, meaning 17 Republicans joined every Democrat in voting against it. The final vote was 44 to 26.

“At the risk of probably committing political suicide … this entire argument is rooted in the Bible,” said Grayson Stone, a long-term substitute for a sick Twin Falls Republican lawmaker. Stone said parts of the Bible instructs people how to shave. “I just don’t understand why we have to apply the Bible to specific aspects of our life, but not all of it. So I will be voting against this bill.”

Bravo!

i don’t know what’s funnier about that post, the use of “woke” as a catch-all pejorative, or the repeated use of the phrase “swinging dicks” 🤣

I don’t think people with a penis should be in a nude female spa but I also don’t think 13-year-old girls should be in there either. Keep it adults only.

According to the series, GLAAD adopted this punishing ethos not long after its current president and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, joined the organization in 2014. Prior to that, former GLAAD president Herndon Graddick told Kawaller on the podcast, the strategy when a public figure erred was to “try to figure out a way to heal—not throw people off your side permanently, but kind of figure out a path forward that you wind up being friends.”

Graddick’s words felt vindicating, as did the message I received from a former GLAAD employee the day the podcast premiered. This individual, whom I’d never met, wrote to thank me for “verbalizing everything I felt then about the switch under SKE [Sarah Kate Ellis].” They continued: “All of a sudden, I was being asked to make the case for someone being a bigot rather than documenting their actual bigotry.”

What felt even more vindicating, though, was hearing what Graddick told Kawaller in Episode 3: “I think we need to correct what’s wrong first. And so that’s a big thing. I mean, particularly the medicalization of children.”

Kawaller narrated: “He thinks that the time has come to admit it was wrong to medicalize so many of these kids.”

Graddick continued: “Teenagers and kids should not be given the power to make these life-altering decisions that medicalization causes.”

Justices Reject Colorado Law Banning ‘Conversion Therapy’ for L.G.B.T.Q. Minors

Colorado and more than 20 other states restrict therapists from trying to change the gender identity or sexual orientation of L.G.B.T.Q. clients under the age of 18.

The Supreme Court decision is rather narrow in scope, but this is a serious issue. Conversion therapy is grooming and it’s exactly the kind of behavior far-right activists accuse schools of doing, only reversed. The other difference, of course, is that “conversion therapy” is a real and dangerous thing.

it's always the loudest freak show fundies whining about moral panics that end up being the biggest creeps

One victim was known to Tarwater and was as young as 10 years old when the alleged abuse began, according to the indictment. The victim was under 13 during part of the alleged period and under 18 at later times. The indictment alleged that Tarwater used “force or threat of force” to compel the victim to comply.
-----
Tarwater, who has fathered 10 children, authored numerous articles and publications on Christian sexual ethics, including “Does Sexual Self-Gratification Glorify God?” — which has since been deleted but remains archived online — and the co-authored “Business Ethics in the Marketplace: Exploring Transgenderism.” His 2005 book, Marriage as Covenant: Considering God’s Design at Creation and the Contemporary Moral Consequences, attacked what he described as “feminist and homosexual attacks on the standards of sexual moral behavior.”

He served as an associate professor of finance in Cedarville University’s business administration department beginning in 2017. Cedarville is a Baptist institution with roughly 6,400 students located in Greene County, about an hour west of Columbus.

Except it's not.

Took about two minutes to find pages of reports.

Alright let's keep this comparison fair and only include American transgressions...
