BREAKING Holloway arrested on marijuana charge - 03.16.26

*Dons tinfoil hat* He came from Auburn. They weren't too sad to see him go. Maybe they knew something? The Pearls are angry and vengeful. Maybe they mentioned that "If anyone wanted/needed to make a drug bust, they might pull AH over."?

If I had to guess the amount trips the felony charge. Less than a pound misdemeanor/more felony. Having a pound with no scales, baggies, weapons, etc and the police having no tape recording of a deal to go in for a bust doesn’t sound like intent to sale to me. It’s sounds like flash and cash from someone who’s about to learn several life lessons the hard way. If he’s lucky he’ll plead down to the misdemeanor and still make a g league team next year. Sad for him this tourney was probably his last playing in a big game experience
When you have minimal resources you buy small bags of pot. With NIL you can buy in bulk. Sounds like plans for a hell of a party.

Yep. Looks bad to me. Finebaum was pretty sanguine/cynical about it. Said we are still favored to get through to the round of 16 and he believed AH would be back, if so.

He's not as right about things as he should be after 45 years of living in and covering Alabama.

So you judge a leader by the stupid actions of a single subordinate...?

Yeah, not fair...😎
In a word, Yes.

That is exactly the burden of leadership.
In my opinion too many serious incidents. Felonies are serious for goodness sake and this is the second serious incident in 4 years.

I don't like it at, its embarrassing

I do think it speaks to the lack of leadership on this team itself. I mean, this dude is a junior and one of the older guys. He should be a leader and hyper focused right now on leading the team into the NCAA tourney. Instead, he's out possibly selling drugs. I hope that's not the case but it sure looks like it right now. He's the 2nd leading scorer on the team and been with the team a couple of years. The primary star (Philon) is younger than he is. And Philon is ultra talented, especially offensively, but frankly seems to have the demeanor of a child. He doesn't seem to strike me as a leader in much of a capacity at all. I know Wrightsell is trying to be one, but I think it kind of goes against his nature. Oats has talked about quiet he was in the beginning at Bama. Then you have Mallette who has been around the program a couple of years. But he just seems like a rah rah energy type guy. I'm not sure how much any of the others look to him for leadership. I mean they started letting the walkon, Jacob Martin, lead the pre-game huddles. I don't think he's really the guy that should be doing that from a leadership standpoint. To me, that is the main downfall of this team and probably one of the reasons why they haven't kicked it on defense or in the rebounding areas. They just don't see to have that alpha leader great teams have to kind of self-regulate the team outside of the coaches.
I can't disagree with any of that. However, most teams with an alpha have an unhappy beta. This team seems to be very close and compatible. (Hope it's not because they're getting stoned together every night.)

Barring any more new information that could make things worse I’m thinking he might be able to plea it down to a 2nd Degree Misdemeanor IF there is no strong evidence of intent to distribute.

I don’t want the kid’s life ruined off of one mistake (though contextually it’s a big one).

But I still think he should be kicked off the team and out of school and I’d think the same of a regular student.

You just can’t have a reputation of your student body being allowed to keep a pound of weed on them and there be no severe repercussions.

If you let one person off the hook then more stupid kids will try to get away with being stupid.
With no gun charge attached, I would think he'd have a good chance at pleading it down to a misdemeanor. With the amount of NIL money he makes, his lawyer can make the argument that he could afford to buy in bulk and try to answer the presumption of distribution that way (if there's not more evidence we don't know about yet)...

Is there a shelf life on weed? Does it sour?

Why why why why…

Why can we not stay out of the spotlight with our basketball program?

Even if charges are dropped, we can’t really play him during the tournament. Too many people will have to save face.

This sucks.

Can you buy it in bulk at Costco?

It looks like they wrote the law to avoid the need to prove intent to sell or distribute. I remember when I was a military prosecutor, we charged distribution to avoid having to prove a sale. Although, we did have an airman who didn't vet his "customer" satisfactorily or he might have found out the guy was a special agent. Ooops. Then, before the agent could arrest him, he offered to sell the agent used ("hot") stereo equipment at bargain prices out of the trunk of his car. The agent told me later that he didn't see that part coming.

People were stupid in 1983 and in 2026.

No tinfoil hat needed. I would not be surprised to find out the Pearls did something like this.

This is true. The amount stands on its on. However, that's no barrier to down-pleading...
