Link: Bama/CNO is the Poster Child for Changing Basketball

This video is a good reminder of how teams are adjusting to the 3 and why 2 pointers are "easier" than they used to be.

It's somewhat of a contrast between Arizona basketball vs. Alabama basketball.

I haven't compared the boxes, but I'm under the impression we're shooting relatively more twos this year...

For years, after watching prior coaches, many of us said we wanted to see a team playing more CNO's style. After several years watching his teams, I've concluded that, without 1-2 dominant bigs, no team running a similar scheme is going to be much of an offensive rebounding team. Too many times this year, our leading rebounder has been #s 3,4 &5. With that situation, your three point shooters had better be "on"...

It may be as this video is suggesting, because teams have adjusted to the importance of guarding the 3 so tightly that it really opens up space in the lane and closer to the basket!

And, if memories serves me, we've seen Philon and Wrightsell take a few more runners (Wrightsell) and turnaround jumpers (Philon) from 10-14 feet this year that in the past.

And, because we usually prioritize defending the 3, that 12-15 foot pull up jumper is usually available against us.

It's been a lively discussion after several games this year. If I had to pick one guy I felt could "go get a rebound" this year, I'd pick Allen, a true freshman!

To Sherrell's credit, he's picked up on his rebounding responsibilities recently, but because of CNO's "positionless" philosophy, we often have traditional 4s or 5s on the court who are there to shoot even when rebounding goes wanting.

But many agree with your take that one adjustment CNO may need to make is to sign a couple of 6'10-7' bangers regardless of their "shooting skills."

After playing Florida earlier this year, I must have been dreaming about a guy like this. The next morning, my wife said, "Who is Chinyelu?" You kept saying his name last night!

Coach Oats has been a blessing to the basketball program, and what he's accomplished is pretty remarkable. We are definitely a top 10 basketball program with him. With that said, I don't know if we can take the next step of winning a national title unless we get guys with size and the ability to play the post. The problem is that's not an easy task. You can find guys with size, but do they have the athletic ability to play down low at a high level.

To me, the hope is that Oats has established Alabama well enough, and the NIL funds are there, to where we can start getting those players that traditionally go to Duke, Kentucky, UNC, etc.

The other challenge, I fear, is keeping him here and away from UNC.

In looking at Alabama basketball on sports-reference.com, 12 Bama teams have won 25 or more games in a season. 5 of those 12 teams were coached by CNO.

He’s on GOAT trajectory for sure, 5 in how many years?
