Trump's Policies XII

poe's law is officially dead :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Jost, 43, recalled the bizarre moment during Thursday’s segment of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “We were pitching ideas for one of the cold opens, like, two months ago,” he explained. “And I was like, ‘Would it be funny if Hegseth just did that Bible verse that they have in Pulp Fiction?’ Remember, they’re like, from Ezekiel...”

Host Fallon chimed in, acknowledging: “Yeah, Samuel L. Jackson, 12:17.”

“Yeah, we talked about it, and we were like, ‘That would be too ridiculous,’” Jost continued. “And it would take up all this time in the cold open. It would seem like we wouldn’t.

this should be fun

We watch a quite savy Brit's commentary on Trump and the changing world order on practically a daily basis. Yesterday's commentary was about the unpopular Starmer government in the UK and the general malaise in their two party system. I was left to reflect on the fall of Pound Sterling as a currency and now likewise the US dollar. The long dreary economic fall of the UK on so many fronts. Is that a road map for the US over the next couple of generations? That may prove to be the best result one could hope for.

What would inflation have to be to inflate back into GDP balance $40T of debt?

i can't wait to start hanging on in quiet desperation

The best words I found to describe that is an intractable dilemma! Another question might be...What rate of inflation would be required to pay the intrest on a 40T debt?

Farmers growing desperate amid rising energy and fertilizer prices

Farmers across the Midwest are entering planting season under mounting financial pressure, as the Iran conflict drives up diesel and fertilizer prices — deepening an agricultural downturn that some say is the worst since the crisis of the 1980s.

Have you bought tomatoes lately? Sheehs! Some restaurants are removing them from their menus...

and the last ones we bought barely lasted 3 days.

i've got a few tomato plants in the ground and hope they take off. last year was a very meager output. the two years prior were both pretty good.
Started some early girls in the green house in February under frost covering. They are strung up now and have some nice green tomatoes. We have so many pest that we started cutting the bottoms out of 2 gallon pots and placing them over the young plants to give them a decent start. It is really hard to see the most beautiful tomatoes half eaten. I have given up on growing greens. Between ants, rats, rabbits, squirrels and insect pest it is a losing battle.

i tried starting some heirlooms from seed again this year and completely failed trying the kindergarten science activity

i got several plants going from seed last year, but only two had any success and those were too late to get a good yield.

i ended up buying a couple from the store and getting three heirloom seedlings from my buddy and they seem to be okay so far. i planted some peppers and basil in pots in the back yard and the gophers are already digging in the dirt. our dogs usually kept them away, but we lost both of them in 2024.

After reading your post this morning I went back and looked at a resistance chart on hybrid tomato varieties. I have tried heirloom as late as two year ago a watched the fruits rot away from viral attacks. My son still attempts to grow some heirloom varieties in Smyrna but primarily we stick with the major hybrids like Early Girl, and Big Boy and some yellow/orange hybrids here in Alabama.

one of my store bought plants is an early girl and i'll see how that one turns out. i have been growing some variety of cherokee purple that i got from a friend the last few years. some of the best tomatoes i've ever had. they grow like a weed and generally produce late into the season.

they are all kinds of ugly but are super tasty. these were from a couple of years ago.

yeah, this is less than ideal, but at least he's putting those trans kids in their place

Key Takeaways

  • Fertilizer pre-booking rates varied significantly by region, with just 19% of Southern producers reporting fertilizer purchases secured ahead of the season, compared to 30% in the Northeast, 31% in the West and 67% in the Midwest, reflecting differences in planting decision timelines and exposure to recent price increases.
  • Fertilizer affordability challenges are most acute in the South and Northeast but remain a concern for farmers across all regions. Around 70% of respondents report being unable to afford all the fertilizer they need.
  • Farm diesel prices have increased 46% since the end of February, raising costs for fieldwork, fertilizer transport and irrigation during both planting and growing seasons.
  • Nearly six in 10 farmers report worsening finances, reflecting rising fertilizer and fuel costs during spring planting and underscoring the urgent need for immediate economic assistance to keep farms gates open.
