2026 - They died this year

The Commodores' co-founder and former bassist Ronald LaPread has died. He was 75.

On Saturday, LaPread's daughter, music producer Soraya LaPread, confirmed her father's death on social media.

"It is with very heavy heart that I must announce that my Father Ronald LaPread has passed," Soraya wrote on a post shared to her Instagram Story. Soraya also uploaded a photo of herself embracing LaPread.

One of my all time favorites. GREAT receiver. Hands like glue. RIP
Raymond Berry, Baltimore Colts wide receiver, 93. RIP
A 20th-round draft pick from SMU, Berry played 13 years for the Colts, made the Pro Bowl six times and retired in 1967 with 631 receptions, then an NFL record. He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1973 and, 21 years later, was named to the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. Berry also spent six years as head coach of the New England Patriots, taking them to the Super Bowl in 1985, where they lost to the Chicago Bears.

Star Trek: The Original Series guest actor William Smithers passed away at the age of 98. While a cause of death has not been revealed yet, the Santa Barbara Independent did report Smithers actually died back on Tuesday, May 26, even though the news was just released.

Fans of TOS will immediately recognize and remember Smithers from the season 2 episode “Bread and Circuses,” in which Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and the landing party find themselves prisoners in a Roman gladiator-esque society.

At 98, I don't think they need to tell us the cause of death.
