You don't go ex post facto. You simply apply it moving forward. This is the outcome I expected. The original intent was to take care of the freed slaves as they should have, but has been extended over time as many things are to include a much broader group. It all boils down to the "subject to the jurisdiction thereof". The interesting piece of for me comes from the debate over the amendment.

And it is a loophole for illegal immigration that the government can't do anything but let the parents stay because now it puts the government in a moral dilemma that pulls on heart strings. I'm sure it's been taken advantage of for years. If I'm wanting into the country and plan on doing it illegally, I just knock up someone and have a child that is born on American soil. Unless it is Donald Trump, "ain't nobody" going to deport me. What's the point of still considering the parents "illegal" if you're not going to deport the entire family or just the parents?

They'll deport the parents, as they currently do. The choice to take the child with (no-brainer for most people) is the parents'.

I read that a Nigerian woman (UK resident) who was due any day wasn't allowed on a flight to the US the other day as it seemed obvious why she was flying here. That's certainly one way to handle it - if you're obviously pregnant, you cannot visit.

I just dont get it, if we want preserve a growing economy we need immigration. We probably wouldn't have as much illegal immigration if we didnt make it take 10 years to naturalize. We act immigration results in a negative drag on GDP and that just isn't accurate at all.

No im just sayin if you want to be able incent people to come legally, and thereby scrub who is coming, then we need to make the process quicker and with assimilation requirements. We have made legal immigration impractical for all parties. It won't be fixed there is too much political leverage to be gained from the chaos.

Agreed. My wife and her peers (who had immigration priority due to being US allies) had to wait two years in refugee camps. My MIL, like wise had to wait about two years, even though all the boxes and then some for her immigration were checked. We couldn't even get updates on where she was in the process or how much longer it would be. And we had immigration attorneys handling this. Just one day, years later, she got approved. Typical stupid government.

Immigrants are fine.
Illegal immigrants are not.
If you dont like the immigration laws, change them but we have them so they should be obeyed with no one benifiting from breaking them.
