I'm not sure who the patrons and who the clients were inside Iran. I suspect the IRGC was calling the shots all along and the mullahs were their puppets.
I've wondered the same. I think it's obvious that, if they weren't, by killing off the leadership which might have had some restraint over them, we've succeeded in putting the Guard in control and put an agreement with them forever out of reach. Greed is the reason , don't be fooled by the noise. The oil the refineries paid the higher amount hasnt even been refined . Oil prices were back to about pre war levels before the latest ,newest war . Yet, gas prices were still waaaay up from pre war levels.
Gas in Georgia near my house is about $1.00 gal higher than in January 2026.

Have you ever read "Japanese Destroyer Captain?" I'm reading it now. He was promoted off shore duty to, I think, to a light cruiser to escort Yamato to Okinawa, and was sunk again, as he had been as a destroyer skipper. It's a fascinating read so far, scathing in its view of Japan and its leadership...
