Lindsey Graham has died

As I’m looking up stuff for the “polls” thread, there is an interesting book about the 1968 election called “American Melodrama,” largely edited by three British men, but basically British reporting on the election.

They have a ball with the idea that Ted Kennedy, miraculously, all of a sudden without warning, was suddenly qualified to be vice president of the United States when his brother was killed. Literally nobody would’ve argued that Hubert Humphrey should pick Teddy as his running mate in February. Or April. Or on June 3.

But boom, Bobby gets killed, and somehow in the mysterious way politics works, Teddy Kennedy moves to the front of the line.

Never mind that he ranked about 87th in the Senate in seniority. No, his last name was Kennedy so there! (Same with Hillary, Dubya, the Long dynasty and too many others).

I was posting on another board when Hillary Clinton was named Secretary of State. Some guy went ballistic because the governor didn’t appoint Caroline Kennedy to the seat. He didn’t just say she should get the job, but made several posts over a period of time stating that somehow she deserved the seat over someone who had served in Congress and had worked on Hillary’s presidential campaign.

FWIW, if I was a governor and had to appoint someone to fill a Senate seat I would appoint a caretaker who pledged not to run for the full term. The closer we were to the election the less concerned I would be over their “qualifications”. If Tubby dropped dead I would appoint Nick Saban just to see the country’s reaction.

Nick would be a good one.

Okay MAGA, don't vote for her then, no need to be dramatic.

We all know MAGA would NEVER vote for……you know……. A person for an important office like Senator when they have zero experience……..

Something tells me her biggest liability with MAGA is her gender.

I think he would laugh in Meemaw’s face if offered the job.

But if he did accept and it was for nearly two years and not just a few months if he suddenly had to replace Tubby, I think he would be an effective Senator.
