    Butch Jones death watch

For one it allows you to begin your coaching search publicly and get out in the front of the line. I would imagine that Florida's recent actions are going to increase pressure on Tennessee to rip the band-aid off now as opposed to waiting till the end of the season.

    Quad tailgating prices going up

Kind of depends on what you define as the "product". For me it's more than just the W-L numbers. When I arrived at UofA in the early 90's I was underwhelmed by the AD facilities considering this was supposed to be one of the top football institutions in the country. Bryant Denny wasn't much to...

Whiny Bret Bielema Makes False Claim About Ref on Monday, Backtracks on Wednesday

Re: Whiny Bret Bielema: "I've Been Guaranteed We'll Never See that Official Again" Trying to displace some of the blame by casting shadows on the officiating which may or may not have cost you 7 points when in fact you managed to lose by 19 (25 not counting garbage-time against the backups)...

A New Helmet For Football's Concussion Problem

Another interesting bit I noticed on the video was the turf underlay for preventing concussions. I'd be interested to know how something like that would affect lower body ligament injuries. The argument against the cleats players use is that the traction technology a long time ago surpassed...

A New Helmet For Football's Concussion Problem

Re: A New Helmet For Football''s Concussion Problem Understood and agreed, but my point wasn't for or against what this helmet manufacturer is doing. It's more along the lines of: From the days of no helmets to now, technology has been consistently applied to make the game safer by wrapping...

A New Helmet For Football's Concussion Problem

Re: A New Helmet For Football''s Concussion Problem Agreed. I still believe technology can provide a viable solution to the problem, but I feel like it's only being utilized in the same vein of progress that got us here (i.e. injury prevention only). I feel technology could be used just as...

Brodie Croyle talks about his time at Bama and boys/girls ranch

I don't even know where to start on this one. From my recollection, when Brodie walked out on the field he was the undisputed starting quarterback and leader of the offense. No one was clamoring for the backup. The talent was obvious. It had been a long time since you could say that about the QB...

Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here) - old

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here) Not trying to get in a back and forth or lecture you on anything. I'm just pointing out it's not a very good comparison. That 7-6 season, while not a championship season, was an improvement over the previous season... so not a dumpster fire...

Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here) - old

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here) Characterizing it as a dumpster fire is a bit of revisionist history. It was consistent and expected back then that our schedule would be back-loaded with losses due to the nature of our schedule and the fact that we didn't have much in the...

Link: It's getting ugly at Grambling....

I'm not sure what your point is exactly. Is it not OK that I have a problem with the players attempting to dictate the coaching staff? If things are as bad as the players say (and I have no reason to believe they're not) I hope we'll see more incriminating pictures than that one. The...

Link: It's getting ugly at Grambling....

I fully understand your point. Still, what stands out to me is attempting to dictate the coaching staff. I think this severely weakens their position.

Link: It's getting ugly at Grambling....

Yes. Only because I think "unsafe training rooms" is a subjective statement. Maybe there's toxic mold and the weights fall off the racks onto the players. Maybe there's one mat in the corner that's a trip hazard. There's probably more to "safety equipment purchased but denied...". I don't know...

Link: It's getting ugly at Grambling....

There's obviously two-sides to the finances/player-treatment angle and not knowing the details, it's hard to say who's in the wrong or right. The part that jumps out at me: The players are also using the boycott to dictate the hiring/firing of the coaching staff. Apparently one of their demands...

Link: Ha Ha Clinton Dix suspended; asst strength coach placed on leave for providing loan

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave I'd think that would severely limit your hiring pool. "Ties to an agent" is a rather ambiguous term. For all we know this guy met an agent once. I'd be willing to bet there aren't many coaches in CFB who don't at least know some agents...

Five SEC Players Alleged To Have Taken Impermissible Benefits

Re: D.J. Fluker should have been paid by Alabama This doesn't worry me much. I'm assuming the money has been all but traced to DJ's front door. All that's up for discussion now is a) how much, b) whether he thought it was an agent payment or just a loan, and c) whether anyone in the AD knew...

ESPN abandons it's recruiting web sites

Just a hypothetical for the downfall of the ESPN monopoly: I think the real competition for ESPN will come with the current paradigm shift from networks as content providers to the content providers as the network. This is happening slowly in the industry (online original series, on demand...

Ex-Marine being made to sit out a year by NCAA (edit: NCAA changed its mind)

Re: Ex-Marine being made to sit out a year by NCAA A Marine in a uniform? I'm with the NCAA on this one. Marines don't usually do anything in uniform. They usually just run around in all kinds of different colors expressing their individuality. Uniforms are generally optional which is why no...

    Can McCarron win the Heisman?

He's definitely well placed given his position and the era he's playing in. If you look at the history of the Heisman winners, there are some pretty extreme trends in terms of how positions and performances are valued (granted - this has a lot to do with offensive trends). During the 70's and...

Link: Study: Want to Get Drafted in the NFL? Go to Kentucky, Not Alabama!

Agreed, but I think there's even more to it than that (if I understand the "study" correctly). Taking the extreme boundary case of a school that has no 4 or 5* recruits demonstrates the absurdity. If you have a program with nothing but 2* and 3* recruits playing, some of those players will...

Lacy "fumble" on the goal line (pic)

Sorry, but I agree with the officials that even this photo does not contain irrefutable evidence. If Lacy has his belly facing the turf the "goal line" that you "see" is one or two or several or who knows how many yards to his left. The camera is at an angle to the goal line so it can easily be...
