Smart phones and Reality TV. Cell phones were OK and useful. Smart phones provide too much connectivity and the ability for people to share waaaayyyyy too much personal info - pictures, tweets, useless information about what they had for lunch, or whatever random thought popped into their head...

Surprise, surpise. Deficit is shrinking! (as a share of GDP)

Common sense would indicate as long as we are spending roughly $3 for every $2 we take in, there is a problem. Since we are expecting to take in record tax revenue, spending is the problem.

If you could have any 2 cars, what would they be?

I understand. I am planning to run with the BMW club Memorial Day weekend. I have been able to run that event the last couple of years and it works out pretty well. Unfortunately, that is the only event I have been able to run each year.

If you could have any 2 cars, what would they be?

I did limit my list to cars I could reasonably obtain which rules out a lot of the insanely expensive exotics. i would love to have a current Boss 302 Mustang as a track-toy (with plenty of extra money for tires and trackdays) and a late 60s/early 70s GM midsize convertable resto-mod. Something...

Today's Question: You have to learn a new skill. Do you prefer to read about it, watc

Generally speaking, I learn best by watching someone else do it and then immediately trying to do it myself after. Repeat process as needed.

Re: CBS 42 off charter cable in Birmingham starting this afternoon, any updates? I know. In trying to find info on the CBS-42/Charter mess, I found a number of articles about these disputes. Hopefully, the channels I care about and Direct will play nice for the next 2 years. I am happy about...

CBS 42 off charter cable in Birmingham starting this afternoon? (now resolved)

Re: CBS 42 off charter cable in Birmingham starting this afternoon, any updates? I have been a long time Charter customer. I have always liked being able to hook up little-used TVs without a box for basic channels and just use the HD boxes on the main TVs. I became concerned about the potential...

    Any Disney World advice?

I will echo the suggestions to stay on site. Another Disney hotel you may want to consider is the Wilderness Lodge. The theming is great and it is a boat ride to the Magic Kingdom (and monorail station). We took our then 6-year old son last year. We went the full week before Thanksgiving week. I...

Question: What was your most memorable Alabama vs. Auburn game?

No question - 1985. 1st 3 quarters were pretty ho-hum but the 4th quarter was unbelievable. Back and forth with the excitement building and Tiffin's kick as an exclamation point. That was when the tickets were split 50-50 in Legion Field. When then kick went through, the Alabama side of the...

News Article: After O's reelection coal co CEO announces layoffs

Re: Vegas employer fires 22 because Obama won election According to Papa John's 3Q report, on sales of $975 million the net income was $44 million. Meaning there income is less than 5% of revenue. If you increase costs by $8 million, you are now under 4%. While the numbers are large, the %...

News Article: After O's reelection coal co CEO announces layoffs

Re: Vegas employer fires 22 because Obama won election The biggest myth is that evil/rich companies are making huge profits and can absorb these type of cost increases. I have never owned my own business but I have worked in several different private sector businesses. I also am friends with...

    Politics: Why I may vote Democrat this Fall . . . What's Your #14?

    14. I may vote Democrat because I believe it is more important for the president to be "eye candy" on the view than to meet with other world leaders visiting our country for UN meetings.

Today's Question: Skydiving. Would you do it? (Or have you done it?)

I did it about 20 years ago. I wanted to experience it once and cross it off the list. I did a tandem jump from 14,000 feet. It is probably the most intense adrenaline rush I have ever experienced. Free-fall for about 60 seconds to around 3,000 feet. Then about 5 minutes ride on the chute. I...

News Article: Director Tony Scott Jumps to His Death From Los Angeles Bridge

Depends on the age of the insurance policy(ies). Most policies have a provision that will not pay a death benefit for suicide within 2 years of the date of issue. Some states limit it to 1 year. If the policy has been in force for more than that time, the death benefit will be paid.
