1000 yard players

As I was looking at the stats earlier I was suprised to see that the leading rusher for several of Coach Bryant's years didn't have but four or five hundred yards.

For those who saw CBB's days - how did he distribute the ball in terms of the running game? Did he have a deep rotation at RB?

Thanks, Nolan

My recolection is that dur the "bone" years 6 or 8 different backs would carry the ball dur any one given game. Ground yardage would be spred amongst all these and a few yards for the qb. No opportunity or need for that matter for one back to pile up a lot of yardage. Two or three guys like Musso/Oglvie etc went through periods where they were the featured back but still the O was more ball control letting the D control the game. Thats my memory at least.

Up until last Saturday, Coffee was used primarily as RB, and Terry Grant only came in to give him a breather...

I wonder, if Coffee had not been suspended for the game Saturday, would Terry Grant not have been used?

Just think of the possibilities here. I mean, TG was just awesome; and of course DJ was his usual greatness too; but if Coffee had played, perhaps, just perhaps Bama would not have fared as well as it did...

Any thoughts there, or am I just over-simplifying things???

I too think Terry and DJ would make a great double/1000 for Bama and certainly make the Bama record books again...

Roll Tide Roll

Nobody is sure when / if we will get Coffee back this season. TG has a very good shot at 1000 yards if he does not come back.

If I recall, in the 79 season Sugar Bowl we had played around 6 RBs by half time against a Holtz Hog team. Wasn't that one of the first times they had a coach mic'ed on the sidelines and trust me it wasn't The Coach.
