Ok ill bite, if you have read all those books then why ask the questions?

I am a Social Studies teacher, and a huge history buff. One book read makes you an expert not. I like to hear other opinions. More opinions and facts make me more knowledgeable.

I do not read an article, a book, here a speaker, et al, and take their word as the gospel. I like to form my opinion based on multiple sources. If you need an example, email me about the Civil War sometime.

The years where we finished #1 but lost the bowl game: That is how the system worked.
Yes. Bowl games were rewards, the system evolved. The Heisman still stands by that, and if they change, we certainly will not be yanking Heisman winners.

Eight years ago an LSU fan was rambling on and on how we count bogus championships. I mentioned some of the years such as 1966 and 1977 when we should have been the number one team, but he didn't want to hear it. All I know is that since that time we have won four undisputed championships. If I ever see him again I will admit that it is hard to count our championships since there have been so dang many.

Not sure why so many folks care how many we claim. I have yet to meet a Bama fan who questions whether it's legit or not. Back in the day there was no AP, no UPI, no BCS, no CFP.

There were championships claimed from dozens of sources.
When do you consider 'Back In The Day'?
The AP poll has run continuously since 1936 (The Crimson Tide claims 11 of these)...
The UPI ran from 1950 with it's top 20 it has kept going although changing names and formats right up until now, being known as the 'Amway Coaches Poll'
So if you're going back before 1936, I don't think there's anyone on this board that was alive back then! Darn sure I wasn't, that was a couple years before I was born!
As for Titles I go by whatever my Alma Mater wishes to claim...

This isn't a negative thread and I apologize if it came off that way. It is just a question.

I have bought and read every book I can get my hands on, read enough articles (both "pro and con"), and heard all the envious arguments from UGa and AU fans that I care to. I have my own opinions, and because I asked the question, I didn't want to state them and lead anyone to a specific answer.

There have been many discussions on these here. Try searching for old discussions before asking. It may have been asked and answered before.

1977 is one that chaps me as well. Alabama lost to a 9-3 Nebraska team in Lincoln after throwing 5 interceptions the second game of the season. We then went on to run the table in the SEC and throttled Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl. (We were #3 going into the bowls). Notre Dame was upset by Ole Miss the second of the season (20-13), was #5, and a beat a somewhat suspect #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

Oklahoma was #2 and got whipped by a Arkansas team (coached by Lou Holtz) which started back up running backs due to suspensions. It seemed only logical that #3 Alabama should move to #1 in both polls. But the Irish, being the national and media darling, got the nod.

This one, and 1966, are the two we should have had that never were realized.
And by the way, we pummeled Ole Miss 34-13 the first game of that same season. A couple of weeks later, they beat Notre Dame 20-13. Ole Miss went 5-6 that year. The bias from the media, AP and UPI back then was INCREDIBLE!

Hopefully, next year at this time we will all agree that we don't have 16 national championships. Seventeen sounds good to me.
