Game Thread: #18 Oklahoma St. vs. #7 Texas (Big XII CG) @ 11:00am (ABC)

I've been thinking about this. I'm not sure the team as a whole was ready to handle what Alabama gets in the second week of their schedule most years. I'm not sure there was a leadership hierarchy in place to handle a team with comparable talent who spent the entire off season preparing for that game. Not much Saban can do about scheduling, but I don't think it was just Milroe who wasn't prepared.

Would you swap a loss to Auburn in week 2 for a win over Texas last week? I'm beginning to think I might.
I have commented to friends that Texas had spent all summer and the first 2 weeks of the season prepping for Alabama. Our team had polished off a bad MTSU and thought they were in a better place than they were. I feel like that loss kind of galvanized this team. Had we not lost that game, we likely lose 2 more somewhere else in the schedule because of where the mental aspect of the team would have been.

OSU played well and OU played badly, simply put. This is the same OSU that South Alabama beat - badly. They are not good - but the “any given Saturday” still jumps up every now and then.

I don’t think there will ever be a more enjoyable Bama team than 2020

I was ZERO stress that year.

PEAK CFB Offense.
I didn’t think so at first because I didn’t think he was ready to be CEO again but I now believe he may win an NC at Texas. Maybe this year.

Obviously the degree of difficulty ratchets up next year.

Yeah and this was a pretty quick turnaround in Year 3

Texas had not lost less than 3 games in season since 2009.

Seems they finally made a great hire.

the committee shouldnt put any stock in UT beating a bad OSU team 49-14..nor a Michigan team doing the same to Iowa..some of these "championship" games are horribly lopsided match ups...but they will..

Not showing every week in the SEC will get you beat more than anything. If it's true in the B12 OU will get a shock at the quality of play they'll get in the SEC.

Texas will find things more difficult too.

Thankfully the 12 team playoff will coincide with them joining the SEC.

Losing 1-2 games won’t kill your season now.

Texas has four Big XII championships in 29 years. Let’s make sure the SEC keeps it that way. They’re arrogant and insufferable while winning.

I don't think texas will get a ton of 'credit' for today's win. What they will likely get a ton of credit for(and it's impossible to come up with reasons why they shouldn't) was sounding beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa. So if they are in the playoffs and Alabama is not, it has nothing to do with today and everything to do with that hth result.

And if things were reversed(and Bama won the hth yet Texas beat the #1 team in their conference title game), most everyone in this forum would argue that HTH has to be respected.

Still, the fsu-lville game is a pickem basically so there is a lot of hope. Not to mention of course that this game is far far from over and it's still going to be tough for Bama to win against this very good georgia team.
