2006 Offensive Line

I think they have a chance to be really good next year depending on how hard they work in the off season and how much some of the older guys are pushed by some of the talent "coming up". Eventhough we'll still be young, we will have experience AND talent. If you truly mean "great" then I'd say when Caldwell and Stabler are Seniors just simply because they are talented kids and will be the most veteran players we have at that point with some talented, experienced, upper classmen (veterans) around them on the line plus talented freshman and sophmores backing up the seniors and juniors rather than the oposite (which is the case now). I'd say 2006, good...2007, extremely good...2008, "great".

Taking the depth chart we have now and adding a year to their class here is what I got

LT Capps Jr
Davis So

LG Caldwell So
Moon Jr

C Cardwell So

RG Stabler So
Davis So

RT Tatum Sr

TE Walker So
McCall So
Hoke So

We will be losing both starter and backup Centers and a backup RT to being Seniors. So I would say still very young.

I agree with you. They should be better next year but I just dont see them being a strong point of the team. My guess is avg. at best. I wouldn't be suprised if we start 2 true freshman next year getting ready for a run at the NC in 07 as alot of people on here think we might have a chance for. If 07 is to be our year I'd hate to go into with maybe 2 or 3 redshirt freshman 1st time starters. That could be a repeat of this years results of a young line. I say throw them in there next year and let them learn so they are ready for 07. Then again I dont have to drop back in that pocket and worry about getting killed. :)

Next year the OL will be young, but because of numbers, we'll be in better shape depth-wise--particularly if one or two members of the 2006 signing class are good enough to start as true freshmen. That will allow the coaches much more flexibilty with regard to playing rotations.

Can anyone imagine what this team could have looked like without the loss of 21 scholarships due to probation? That and the poor recruiting of linemen by Dennis Franchione.

Nah.. I think our O-line can be one of our major strengths next year. Both of our guards are very athletic - they just lack the game experience. I think people are taking too much from what happened in LSU game. LSU has probably the best DL in the nation. They are about the only team who can go face to face against USC and be able to stop their running game with only 7 men front. Our guards did a decent job against this D-line. What I'm hoping next year is if we move our RG to C, and insert Stabler at RG, our right side will be very solid with Cardwell (C), Stabler (RG), and Tatum (RT). Imagine this. We can either pull our LG, Center, RG, or RT to right side in this case. (something we can't do this year). Look out! Ken Darby for Heisman campaign starts this spring.

On the other hand, I'm still not sold on Capp at LT. That position, I assume, will be wide open come this spring.

Now heres a man that sees things the way it really is. Preach it

I've heard that Andre Smith WOULD NOT BE A REDSHIRT and that he is physically ready to go at the college level. If he chooses Bama, don't be surprised if he takes one of those spots immediately!

I'll say this about our OL next year, if I'm Timmy Tebow and I just witnessed the beat down LSU put on Brodie in the 2nd Half, I'm really starting to wonder if Bama is the school for me and my good health.

I think when you hear that he is helping recruit, it's offensive lineman to protect his butt is what he is doing. :biggrin2:
