Predictions for the 2009 season? My vote is 12-0, once again. IMO, VT will be our toughest game and it won't even be that close.

When you've got a good defense, a few playmakers in the return game/receiver/tailback, and solid coaching...I like our team's chances in any game, but I'm going to stay on the tempered side considering we have a first year starter at QB. I'm going with 9-3. I don't know who those three losses will be (like I said, I think we have a good chance with everyone on the roster) but you can never anticipate the unknown and unexpected.

I would like to see us win the west and get another shot at Florida.

I guess odds are we do not go 12-0 again. I picked 11-1 because I think we'll drop one out of Ole Miss, LSU, or Virginia Tech. I tend to lean towards Ole Miss in that group because it's on the road. When they've beaten us, that's where they do it at. I'm not sure if Ole Miss has ever won in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham (maybe once or twice?)

Anyway, I can't wait for the season, as usual. As sports seasons go, this is the worst time of the year.

I'm anxious to see how the OL comes together. All the other pieces are in place, IMO.

I see the same 3 games as our problem games, but I see us losing 2. OM on the road is a concern, but I think VT and LSU present more problems for us in terms of the quality depth of their personnel. I could also see us going undefeated in those or losing all 3. In truth, there is no one else on the schedule that really worries me. Arkansas is probably 4th on the list of toughest opponents and I think there is a huge gap between the first three and them.

I do not see ANYONE on the schedule that we cannot beat in a convincing fashion. ( Including the possibility of facing the Gators in Atlanta )

That oblong piece of leather however DOES have a habit of bouncing in strange ways on any given Saturday. We WILL be getting everyones "A Game" ( I wouldn't have it any other way ) I am sure we will see our share of stupid penalties and mistakes. I am equally sure that we will see several bad calls ( this IS the SEC afterall ) go against us.

With all of that being said.....I can see NO reason to lower my expectations to anything less than 12-0. In fact, I think that a lesser expectation is a slap in the face to our team and coaching staff.

Could we lose 1 or 2 that we should or could win? SURE ! But at this point we are undefeated and will remain so at least until the end of our first game. I see no valid reasoning to give up that possible win, nor any other for that matter.

Check out the infamous 1988 homecoming game. We lost to Ole Miss and the highlight of that game we completed 0 passes for 0 yards. The aftermath of that game was the mythical "brick through the window" Curry likes to bring up occasionally.

Oh yes... for some reason I was thinking of Memphis in that game... I know we lost to Memphis somewhere in that era as well.

Bill Curry...

But, that must be one of the very few times they've beaten us in the state of Alabama. They've only beaten us 8 or 9 times all-time.

It's hard to say, really, considering an undefeated season came along last year - and I didn't see that coming. I think we have a really good team, with good players, good depth, and one of the stingiest defenses in the country.

I feel confident we can win 10 or more games and get back to the SECCG. A loss early in the season certainly doesn't stop you if you learn from it and win out.

I'm saying maybe 10-2 but more likely 11-1 with a loss early or mid-season. From there we roll right into Atlanta to meet Florida again. The SEC should just get used to it!

11 - 1 ole sis in oxford vt in atl LSwho these all could be tuff games to me and could come down to the wire.....

I would love 12 - 0 again but if not I will still be PROUD!!! :BigA::BigA::BigA:

south carolina scares me. The sandwich game between the viles & ole sis. tobc will motivate his team by telling them we are so sure of a win, that we made them our HC opponent. Scheduling other SEC teams for HC has not worked out well for us in the past. The ole sis game in '88 & the vandy game in '84 was HC (can't remember for sure other than I was a drucken frat daddy at the time). I believe that was vandy's last win over us. I hope the 3rd time is the charm.:BigA: RTR.

It has less to do with scheduling a team for a sure win but just scheduling in general. Since we want to put a creampuff OOC late in the season, we either have HC the second or third game of the season or second to last game of the season to schedule a "sure win."

If the O-line gels sooner rather than later, we go 12-0. If not, I see us possibly losing a game or two. I think we go 11-1, and make a trip to the SECCG.:BigA::cool2:

I picked 12-0 because I think it's a realistic shot. It is also as realistic to go 11-1 and 10-2, and those records would not surprise me at all.

I guess right now, as we speak, the only game I'm kinda worried about is Homecoming against South Carolina. Surely, they'll get inspired with the fact that another SEC put them down as the Homecoming opponent.

Ole Miss doesn't scare me at all. Yes, we've had close games with them in the past. But the last time we were there under Saban, it was the same team that ended up losing 4 straight to close the regular season. Before that, Shula was the coach. I think we're starting to get a different team, almost completely (and maybe completely) de-Shula-ized, and thus, this game will not come down to Hail Mary situation like last time.

LSU could come in with a good game, since they'll probably have the closest talent match-up to us at that point of the season.

We could definitely lose to Virginia Tech, but I'd attribute that possibility to it being the first game of the season, and almost anything can go wrong.

What is wonderful about this year is that the schedule sets up nicely with a much easier road to 12-0 and a rematch with Florida in the SECCG than last season did.
