We do have Bulovas on campus now, so we hopefully don't have to worry about it. Rivals does list him as the #2 kicker, though. 247 lists him solely as a punter.

Just a question. How is it that the # 1 rated punter is only a 3* ? Is that somehow just inherent in being a specialist? Sure shouldn`t be related to how important the position can be ( vital, as we all know ).

No kicker has EVER been rated higher than 3-stars......ever. My guess is that it is because they are seldom on the field and a five-star rating would skew class rankings. :conf3:

Being the #1 punter in the nation doesn't mean he's one of the top recruits in the nation. Kickers are never highly ranked because they're kickers.

Thanks RTR, kind of what I thought. A denigration and dismissal of specialists with which I personally disagree ( and which I would wager that CNS and most other coaches do as well ). A guy who can consistently punt the ball 45 yards with good hang time and that can bounce a few out of bounds inside the 10 is a weapon, pure and simple.

And I believe you would be wrong judging by the number of specialists signing LOIs every year. Most are walk-ons. Very few actually get scholarships out of high school.

Good point and hard to argue. I don`t understand it though. Maybe somebody can explain it to me. If you can pin people deep even relatively consistently and/or know you`ve got a guaranteed 3 from 45 and in ? Seems like a no brainer to me, but then I`m not a multi-million dollar coach, either.

Its really hard to project the success of HS placekickers into the college game. Part of it is that HS uses a tee, whereas college doesn't. Part of it is that you have to get the ball up higher and quicker. Tenths, or even hundredths of seconds can be an eternity.

Like you, though, I never understood why it's so hard to predict the success of punters. Only thing I can guess is the timing issue. You have to get the ball off quicker. As for placekickers, small fractions of a second can be eternities. Apparently, a lot of HS punters simply can't make that adjustment, and it's really hard to predict who can and who can't.
