It's now been about 3 1/2 months since I started this thread and I'm still of the same opinion that neither Biden nor Trump will be on the ticket.

On the Dem side, I see Gov. Newson as a legitimate candidate, should Biden drop out.

On the Rep side, I don't see Gov. DeSantis as much as I did before. Terrible campaigner.....

My impression is that thoughtful Dems and are hyper concerned over Byden's vulnerability in the race. Dean Phillips, Democratic Representative from Minnesota, said yesterday that Nicky Haley beats Biden several points above the margin of error. I believe that Republicans who oppose Trump and Democrats see the possiblity of Trump beating Biden bringing the end to democracy as we know it. Here is the Dean Phillips interview with Steve Schmidt.

I didn't watch the GOP debate last night except for a few minutes here and there. I think these debates are pretty lame and are just an extension of what we refer to as the circus that politics can be when the cameras are rolling.

My fav. CNN political program for many years has been the Noon program "Inside Politics" hosted by John King. I've always enjoyed hearing varying opinions on current political issues and his program was very well done, informative, and entertaining.

I only mention this because (as some here may know) King stepped away recently from "Inside Politics" and was replaced by his ex-wife of 4 years (2008-2012) Dana Bash.

I still enjoy the show but liked it more with King as moderator - but to each their own preferences.

Like I said - these debates to me are a waste of time - but sometimes the post-debate discussions are interesting such as this one with Bash and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Posting this because if Trump doesn't make it through I like this guy's chances......

They're all just fighting for second place to someone who has been impeached twice and indicted. 75 years from now, when people are reading history books, what do you think they will think about the people of this era? I would say that the divide has grown more since Trump won in 2016.

I will say Ramaswamy sounds very educated, but he has a snowballs chance of winning the nomination.

ramaswamy is a tool. which means he may appeal to some totally not republicans

No doubt - but you never know. Still time left for things to change - which I believe they will.
I hope you are right because I’m like many voters because I don’t know any to vote for either one of them.

I don't think - and this is merely a hunch - either Biden or Trump is the nominee for their parties as of Election Day 2024.

Presumably, one of the candidates now running will be the GOP nominee, but I have zero idea who that will be - and I'm the guy who predicted Palin as the running mate months in advance AND who said, "It will not be Rudi vs Hillary" in March 2007 online (I said it would most likely be McCain and Edwards, which was quite a contrary view at that point, so I was half-right).

OTOH - I DID say Trump couldn't win the nomination in 2016, too, so it's not like I'm a sage. I actually did say (along with jthomas66, among others) that IF HE WON the nomination, he had a better chance at winning the general election against the Hildabeast than some realized.

Can I ask your reasoning behind this statement?

Terrible human being

I do wish Biden would step aside and let someone from the next generation take up the cause. He’s done more than enough for a lifetime. Hopefully he will decide to just enjoy what time he has left with his family

What a scenario we have. A former president who is a convicted rapist and has numerous trials before him -- will be the nominee of the "law and order" party.

The current president who is highly protected but obviously suffers from some form of dementia....and supposedly spends 40% of his time at a personal residence.

Is this the best we can do? Really? Where are the grownups in either party who will stand up and say, "No, we're not going down that path?"

God help us...our ship of state is headed straight into a hurricane without any leadership...
