Looking at the DL recruits, it is disappointing to see that we are not going after 300+ lbs guys ( https://247sports.com/season/2026-football/RecruitRankings/?InstitutionGroup=highschool&Position=DL )

In comparison, GA has 2 300+ lbs commits, and Texas has 3 300+ lbs commits.
I don’t think that you can win in the SEC without having 300+ lbs guys in the trenches

We will also lose Keenan and potentially Smith to NFL draft next year. We really need more lbs in the trenches. Our DL commits are undersized by SEC standards

I agree with you. We do have a couple of freshmen with Simmons and Faaga that are 300 lbs or more and Beaman will be back hopefully healthy. I also think we will be looking to get some 300+ in the portal. I believe I read where Simmons started against LA-Monroe.

Keeley and Mbou are just getting started and they will soon develop into a force. I like what I saw from both of them last Sat. I am not too concerned about getting 300 lbs plus DL especially if they can't move well laterally and are not able to shed blockers. Bama has edge guys that could play inside if needed and I think the portal can help, but DeBoer strategy is development and we must give him time.
Womack defense finished Top 10 in total defense last year, that's not too shabby considering our DL isn't what we're used to.

I wonder if they are recruiting under 300 lb linemen, knowing that when they get into the weight program, they will get to 300 lbs? Rather than recruiting DL'men who are already 300-310 then have to worry about them ballooning up to 330-350, and now you've got potential weight problems?

Athletes can put on weight, but the heavies can't become athletes...well, you know what mean...

It’s only on Rivals. I think all the groups will need to do some serious rethinking of the process by which they evaluate high school players. For reference I point you towards the 2022 qb list of five stars.

Rivals is #3 or #4 in the recruiting services so I rarely look at them. As Buzzard stated, we have a bunch and the most of any school on both On3 and 247 which are the two best services. However, I'm sure we will have several when late season re-evaluations are done.

I think the staff despite all the criticism they received does a very job of evaluating prospects.
