BREAKING 5* RB Ezavier Crowell commits to Bama

High school football fans would do well to take a few Fridays and check out every team on Hwy 43 in Marengo and Clarke counties. Demopolis, Linden, Sweet Water, Thomasville, Jackson, Leroy.....it doesn't get better than that.

I recently heard the story of Derek Henry when he first came to Bama struggling to pick up blocking concepts.

One day, when coaches were riding him, he said something like "In HS all they did was give me the ball and tell me to run. So be patient with me."

I wonder with some of these young guys like Deer and Hill if that's what's holding them back.

We've seen Jam picking up key blocking assignments and it makes me wonder.

He plays in 4A which is pretty good competition. He can fly.

I watched him last year in Mobile against Baker. He took an outside zone up the sideline with two defenders with a 5-8 yard angle on him. He stuck his foot in the ground and dusted both of them. He is one of the best HS backs I've seen in a long time. How it translates in college will be interesting. Roydell was also in that mix coming out of HS and it didn't translate so there are no "for sure's" in the recruiting game.

Can he block?

We are like burnt children right now.

To be ready to play/start from day 1 on campus, probably not.

However, it really depends on the type offense he's played in. If they only run the ball, he's probably not called on to block because he's the one with the ball (like most star HS RBs).

If they mix it with some passing offense, he probably has some knowledge.

But this is primarily the reason we rarely see true freshmen come in a can be 3 down backs.

There's no doubt the primary reason Jam keeps playing is he has the best knowledge of pass pro as a RB over the reast of the guys. Comparing his running skill/ability/health with D. Hill is not even close.

RB room next year going to have some serious young talent. We may lose 1-2 to portal (Young is gone IMO) and Jam gone to NFL and Washington out of eligibility.

I don't even know his eligibility off the top of my head. But, I really wonder why he's not got a few more touches...especially on screens because he's good in the open field.

But, of all those guys, he's the odd man out most likely.

When Hill, Dear, Crowell learn pass pro, we ought to have a 3 headed beast at RB. And I'm not even familiar with Barnet.

He’s got a burst. But his vision isn’t great. He’s a G5 player to me.
