Found out at the last minute that I had to work today and couldn't make it to Fan Day. I can't belive someone hasn't started a thread about it. Help me out guys, how about some pics and observations....

Well my main observation was it was HOT! :biggrin2: I have never seen a practice run so effeciently! There was no rest, no stopping just perfectly coordinated movement from one drill to the next. The players look to be in incrdible shape, and there are so many talented players that it was hard to keep up with who to watch. Even the FR are jacked! Michael Bowman looks like a TE but can move, and Fluker is really that big. My favorite play was Terry Grant picking up Fluker on a run through. Terry looked like a little kid running into him! Fun way to get pumped up for the season and can't wait for kickoff.

I was standing in the breezeway trying to keep cool. I got to watch Star Jackson a good bit from my vantage point. He looked a little better than I saw during a-day. The team looks to be in great physical shape. It was hot, very hot. I heard a cop say there was at least 5 people taken out of the stadium due to the heat. Also, the Bryant Museum was a great place to visit.

I thought the same thing myself. Generally there are Fan Day pics posted by now.

I planned to be in Tuscaloosa today. I put several mini helmets in a gym bag in my truck last night, but I had a death in my family this morning and did not make it. The death was not unexpected so I knew it was a possibility I would not be able to attend Fan Day this year.

This is the first Fan Day I've missed in about 12 years.

I was impressed!!!!

Cody looking slimmer and a lot faster..

#21 Dre looked good very tight on coverage and great mobility and quick feet!!!!!!

#3 Trent :eek2: is all im going to say but Ingram and Grant were looking well and healthy....

#10 McCarron threw a pick into tight coverage little mental mistake but besides that he looks very comfortable at QB

OMG watching practice just made me so giddy for the season to START....

And O-line I believe will be Just fine, and I believe our offense Honestly will be better than last yr.... Just my opinion :BigA: R T R !!!!!!!

and WOW the line for Autographs was so long as soon as we got onto the field it was like 10 mins till its over I felt bad for all the people behind us :conf2:

I live here in T-town and I noticed that by Friday night there weren't too many open parking spaces at the hotel parking lots. Every hotel I passed by on Skyland was slammed full, and several on Mcfarland too.

And yes, it was blazing hot. Too hot for an ordinary person to travel a hundred miles just to watch a team practice and get some autographs.

You Alabama fans are nuts.

:biggrin2:

I went and I enjoyed the practice. But I was hoping to get some autographs on my helmet. I watched practice for an hour and then got in the autograph line. I didn't stay there long when I realized I had about a thousand peeps in front of me. :(

I know this may sound harsh-- but as I get older my idea of having a good time is not driving 4 hours round trip, sit in 97* with 89% humdity to watch practice.
I would not even go if the drive was just down the road from my house.
But I am glad for the people that enjoy such things.

:BigA:Got it ! You a social worker sitting at the computer under the air conditioner worrying about the Alabama fans sitting in the heat! Have you ever heard the saying ? Different strokes for different folks!

Sorry, I had cancer last year and after chemo cannot sit in the sun like I could when I was younger. I did end my post with I was glad for the people that like it.
But I guess I deserve it.

This is what I saw...

Fluker and Dre, at different times of the day, got to get some reps with the first team. We all have to keep reminding ourselves that the coaches are experimenting like mad men right now, so it may mean absolutely nothing right now. Last year, Julio and Ingram were mixing and matching as well, and looked how the summer ended with their significant contributions in the Clemson game.

Fluker is Godzilla with a helmet, maybe the biggest football player I've seen on the field. He is obviously learning the T/G spots because he showed up at either T/G spots during his reps. As previously mentioned on another site, I don't think the coaches would be plugging him in with the variations of the O-line as yesterday showed if he wasn't picking up anything mentally. He did have trouble at RT when Hightower lined up at DE in the Dime. Fluker didn't put a finger on Hightower.

Related to Hightower/McClain - I think they'll both have a breakout season. They looked much faster than last year, and Hightower absolutely steamed rolled/trucked/ran over/whatever the descriptive term poor frosh OL Anthony Steen on a blitz. Steen laid on his back for a few seconds before he got up. McClain had a nice lick on Upchurch.

Julio looked bigger to me and faster. What was really nice to see is Lacy running a counter play and ran basically untouched because Atchinson misread the pre-snap look. Saban chewed out Atchinson right there. Even Ingram looked like he's a bit faster.

Vlachos held his own against Cody at times, so for me, that'd put him at the leader for center. As for Dre, there were times when he lined up on the other end from Kareem Jackson, and Arenas lined up at the star position. Bowman may be able to contribute right away as a frosh.

Finally, unlike the past couple Fan Days I've been to, yesterday's practice seemed highly energetic by the players and coaches. Seemed like there was higher energy level, more focus, more effort by the players. Sept. 5th can't get here soon enough.

It was HOT, fortunately about 3:30 the clouds took over and we could feel a decent breeze the rest of the day.

The players were in impressive shape. Lacy looked good, DJ is huge. The upper classmen definitely showed the newby's what it's like in SEC. Rolando put a hit on Kendall Kelly that was unbelievable!

Overall, a fun time and a great way to get pumped for the season to start.

Sorry to hear that BB.

It was definitely hot out there like others have said. The team looks to be in excellent physical shape, I certainly don't believe we'll have to worry about conditioning. Maybe it was just me but Ro and Donta seemed to be giving some of the frosh on offense a bit of a "welcome to the SEC" kind of thing, they absolutely blew up a couple of guys on different occasions. :biggrin2:
Can't wait for Sept. 5th!!! :BigA:

Bumpity bumpity bump!

I had a short conversation today with a barner friend of mine who attended their 2009 Fan Day. He said "never again!." Apparently, the whole affair was poorly organized. He said that he and his six year old son stood in line for more than an hour to get a few player autographs and a photo or two. The lines barely moved, and his kid started getting cranky. So, he left. Instead of getting player and coach autographs, he ended up with some from the radio network.

I understand that an estimated 4,500 barn fans showed up for the event.

Alabama had it's fan day last week. An estimated 20,000 fans showed up, and I have yet to hear of any significant complaints. If the way these things are organized is indicative of how the two staffs and administrations are running their programs, they gotta lotta catching up to do.

Just an observation...
