JessN: A Look Ahead to 2025 Roster Moves :: ADDED - 2024-2025 Portal Tracker

I don't think anyone is taking it out of context. All what we're saying is.. just keep an eye on him, that's it. I do know that there has been "tampering" going on with him. Teams are trying to get him to enter portal. Whether he does it or not, it's up to him.

This is my opinion: He has 1 more year to go before going into NFL. What does he need to do to boost his NFL draft status? IMO, If he cares about that... Then he's better off at Clemson.

Does he want to win game, go deeper in playoff? Then he is better off going into portal.
If he wants more NIL money, then enter the portal. Everything is subjective depending on how he looks at it.

Let me tell you this: Bama are talking to players that are not in portal. Just because we don't hear anything doesn't mean anything isnt' going on behind the scene. I mean look at the Horton Kid that just commited to us.

Why do you say that?

We were over the roster limit.
We lost some guys who have contributed in their time - Prentice, Law, Payne and Oatis. Odom showed potential but chatter exists about his attitude so I don't know there. Haynes and Smith have started at times. In return, we get a potential contributor in Collins, likely starters with Horton and Calhoun and then maybe some contributions or depth from the LB and OL. I'm not complaining about the staff, just was hoping for a bigger splash.

I think we have done pretty well. We are still supremely talented and I expect after a full offseason for this new staff and a new signal caller under center then could be set to exploit all that talent we have in year 2.

Like some have said we have lost some talent ( we think) and gain some talent ( we think) but we know the players we lost we knew what we had, Devonta is a good DB Bama was better when he was on the field and he knew that so he shopped, Haynes didn't fit the system, Lawson heck of a blocker, not a good route runner, doesn't fit the system, Prentice good route runner, bad blocker, doesn't fit the system, we could go on and on about who left and what they could do or not do, CKD knows what he's doing and what he wants, if everyone remembers CKD said after he got here "We are in retention mold, Then we'll be in evaluation mold " that's where he is now

We didn't lose those guys. The player we got in transfer portal were significant upgrade. Only think I wished stayed was Odom but that's about it.

On haynes, law and prentice (and Odom), we don't know that they didn't fit the system or might have been a great fit in the system because we haven't been running the system that CKD wants to use. He wasn't able to install any of the passing concepts that made UW what it was due to QB limitations. He specifically wanted Law and Odom to stay (not sure about Prentice or Haynes) so I'd guess he thought at least those two would have fit into his plan for the offense once we have a QB who can run a more robust playbook.

Didn't know that - wonder if it will really hold. Also, with NIL, does it really matter? i.e. couldn't we make the cost of tuition and room/board part of the NIL deal and not allot a scholarship to them.
Agreed - not sure that it would hold up if anyone fought it.

What type of system doesn't require a highly rated running back who can catch the ball out of the backfield?
There must be other reasons why Hayne's performance fell off this season.

It's hard to put up good stats when you are basically being asked to play the role of a fullback for QB power runs.

that said, there are different types of running schemes that fit different styles or skillsets of RBs and not all RBs do all the things equally well so we just don't know about Haynes. I do tend to agree we'd rather have him than not have him though.
