A video of every Jacob Coker throw in 2013

Before I watched the video, I saw a few tweets from folks who already watched it. Aaron Suttles mentioned he needs more touch on the intermediate passes, and he was right. That's fixable.

He was under plenty of pressure in the regular season because he was with the second string OL. Our OL had issues in 2013, but they weren't that bad.
That 2nd team OL he was playing behind was AWFUL!!! Would make any Pro QB look bad. Trust me when I tell you this.

Plus he was throwing to FR and Walk-on WR's too.

I trust Saban, but I'm having a hard time getting all excited about this kid. I really think that David Cornwell is our answer at QB for the long term.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I was watching the video..With that said, it's obvious Coker has legit D1 QB talent, and could become a great QB with Kiffin's coaching him up..Watching this video I can understand Cornwell's tweet of confidence that he will battle Coker, and beat him out for the starting job, I love his tweet that he will outwork all the QB's(Coker included) and become our starting QB..i hope he does because Cornwell videos are as impressive as any QB I've seen recruited at Bama..Dude can flat pass the ball & his spiral is as tight, if not tighter than Coker..

I wish Del Rio had stayed.

This thread has the potential to be an all time classic. I'm bookmarking it now to avoid having to find it later.

I just want to leave a few things here for future reference:

There's a reason CNS requests every play from a player's HS career. For every highlight film that shows 50 great plays or throws, there could just as many bad ones that you'll see on a highlight reel. Coker's video shows flashes of brilliance and shows lack of experience and development. IOW, he looks like a young, raw QB with potential.

For everyone fretting over Del Rio leaving - he is just as unproven as anybody else. No one has seen a single snap to him in a CFB game. He may be great at OSU and may have been great here. We don't know, and at this point, it doesn't matter. He's gone, so we have to go another direction.

There's no telling who will be the starter next year. Obviously our staff sees potential in Coker, and are pursueing him. I doubt they are reading somebody's blog or twitter tweets to make that determination.

In a year or two when we look back at this thread, some people are going to be right, some are going to be wrong, and some are probably going to end up looking silly. ;)

Since I'm like everybody else and have no idea what is going to happen, and I'm gonna just wait and see how it plays out instead of making a bold prediction, an ominous warning, or voicing a handwringing concern. :)

He obviously had some bad throws in there...a lot of bad ones. But he also had some great throws especially a few of the backshoulder sideline completions. He has a very high ceiling and is more polished mechanically with better arm strength and throwing motion than Sims. If CLK can elevate Crompton at UT then he could eliminate the bad throws that Coker showed in those clips.

I also like what I've seen and heard from Cornwell and I'm starting to think the real battle will be between Cornwell and Coker. Either of these 2 could really help us the next couple years. IMO though the guy that is going to be the real deal superstar is Town. He won't be here for a while but Town is the future. That kids Sophomore stuff looks better than most recent 5 Star HS Senior tapes.

There's obviously a real interest on our end and it's not just from the fans...

I know that there is an interest on our end from the fans and coaching staff.

I just don't understand the mindset that some folks have, in which Coker is the surefire replacement for AJ and will play at the same level as AJ. I haven't seen anything that sets him apart from the QBs we have.

I think it's good message board conversation for the offseason. I fully believe that most commenting in these threads realize their opinion has ZERO impact on the coaching staff. But it is something to grind our teeth on in the offseason doldrums.

I enjoyed watching Coker's video. I wasn't overly shocked by what I saw or didn't see. I can see exactly why our staff would be interested in him. However, I also can see (as I'm sure the staff can as well) improvements he needs to make as well. After watching the video I believe every QB on our team starts at square one with the evaluation process. No one is ahead of any other player. There's no doubt Blake Sims has things he needs to improve on as well as Coker. Along with the rest of the guys who are competing for the position.

You're more than welcome to "sit back" and take a "wait and see" attitude. I guess that means you will not make another post in any of the qb threads until one is announced before our first game. :) I wouldn't take this type stance on too many topics or you won't be able to post about anything.

I had an interest in the video because:

1. I'm tired of reading "Bieber arrested for DUI" articles
2. It's Jan 23rd and I'm tired of waiting for NSD
3. I'm tired of waiting for the Spring Game
4. Is it August yet?

In all (slight) seriousness, I wanted to get a glimpse of what this guy could do so far albeit a small limited one. Because I didn't watch the FSU spring game nor did I decide to tune in while FSU was up 70 on Bethune-Cookman, this video let me see a little bit of what Coker can do. Thank goodness Jimbo likes to throw the ball up 60 on Nevada. I, for one, applaud you Jimbo. Thanks for some message board fodder! Oh and beating Auburn too...

I don't think he likes to do it, but there is no better way to bring up your younger guys and get more reps for the 2's. You're only on play away from being the starter.
