Question: About SECCG time, GA Dome & Marta

I used to live in Grant Park, just south of the airport. I travel about 3 times a month so I know the airport VERY well and I would leave my house 75 minutes before departure and could walk onto the plane without breaking stride about 20 mins before takeoff.

BUT... to guarantee you make your flight I'd say you would have to leave the game at 90 mins before (Marta from the Dome to the airport involves a change AND takes about 30 mins from 5 points) OR with 6:00 to go to avoid any rush... whichever comes first.

My advice? Get a hotel and fly out the next day. Use Priceline and you should be able to get one by the airport cheap.

Thanks for everyone's help. I knew it would be close, but I thought leaving GA Dome at 8:00pm (2 hours before my 9:55 flight )would allow enough time to get to the airport. I will already be checked-in and have no bags. Would there be an advantage to walking to the 5 points station to avoid the crowd traveling North and the train change?

if you were going to walk to a station, the better bet will be the garnett station because 5 points is where everyone going north will be.

my brother and i did this after va tech. if you walk this route, be sure to cut over on broad and not peachtree. at 8pm its probably not a huge deal, but after the va tech game at about midnight, that block of p'tree was a bit sketchy. at least the hookers and the hustlers knew how to say roll tide though

A lot of you aren't paying attention to the question at hand. He is not asking whether he can make it from the Ga Dome to his plane in 45-60 minutes. He is asking if he can make it from the Ga Dome to the airport in 45-60 minutes. You only need to be at the airport 1 hour before your flight on a Saturday night with no bags to check. Therefore, since his flight is at 9:55 he needs to be at the airport at 8:55. The ride from the Five Points MARTA station to the Airport MARTA station is 16 minutes. Assuming the game doesn't go into OT and ends within 4 hours (which it did last year) can he make it out of the GA Dome, to the GA Dome MARTA station and on a train, ride to 5 points (1 minute ride), and change trains at 5 points in 40 minutes? That's the question.

I think it can be done assuming he is ready to head for the down ramp in the Dome just a few minutes before everyone else.

with no large events going on it's a quick easy ride. however, if he is leaving anywhere near the end of the game it will take him 25-30 minutes to just get on a train if he's lucky. if he goes to 5 points and switches, add another 10-25 mins depending. you've got to remember, even if you "beat" the crowd down to the platform, they are probably going to hold trains, especially he first couple, until they are full.

I would do it if you were just flying down and back. You only go around this world once. Have you tried getting car service from the GA dome to the airport? That's what I would do. Good luck.
