Somewhat old news, but I didn't see a thread, so I started this one.
Looks like Glenn Putyrae was nudged out the door about a month ago. Had the telling, "leaving to spend more time with family" statement from Putyrae. Kind of like, "pursuing other career opportunities," in the business world.
Some mixed reviews online about Putyrae -- some praising ability to improve rowers. Rowing competed in the Big 12 until a couple of years ago and early in his time at Alabama, he was named Big 12 COY. Some commenters question coaching tactics and say he crossed the line between being a tough coach and being toxic.
I don't know if he's just an old school guy whose methods don't go well with today's athletes, or he really is a jerk to his team members. I do know that after an initial period of improvement, the team stagnated for several years. Regardless of where blame rightfully lies, he's gone.
Putyrae's replacement is a young coach from the Penn staff, Kumari Lewis. I know nothing about her (or any other rowing coach, for that matter).
