AJ McCarron, the QB out of St. Paul's in Mobile, is one of Alabama's biggest recruits for 2009. He has had an excellent junior season, and has led his team all the way to the semifinals, where they play Friday night. Alabama really needs a big QB recruit and I believe AJ would fit perfectly into Applewhite's offensive system. AJ is teammates with current Alabama commitments Ivan Matchett, Mark Barron, and Destin Hood. I think this can only help us in landing this top notch recruit. Here are AJ's stats for this year compared to the stats of the top three QBs for the 2008 class, all of which are 5 stars. If this is anything to go by it seems McCarron should be a 5 star himself.

AJ McCarron- 124/203 (61%) 2,260 yds 24 tds 3 ints
E.J. Manuel - 137/244 (56%) 1,973 yds 15 tds 7 ints
Dayne Crist - 1,200 yds 17 tds 3 ints
Blaine Gabbert - 119/231 (51%) 1,523 yds 20 tds 7 ints

AJ has a higher completion percentage, more yards, more tds, and less ints than all of them. AJ is also as tall as all of them so that shouldn't be a factor against him.

Hey jmark, do you know Ivan Matchett's season stats also? It seems like he has a huge game every week, so they must be pretty impressive!

Yeah he has 168 carries for 1821 yards and 23 TDs. That is 10.8 yards/carry. Not to bad. St. Paul's has an insane offense. I think Ivan will have a fourth star by the end of the year.

Does he have a good set of wheels? He will need them to fit into CMA's system.

Yeah but all those guys have 20-50 pounds on him. AJ is gonna need to add some muscle mass to get a 5th star i think. 6'4 185 is scrawny. I've seen him in person and he is way too skinny right now.
he dude has barely hit puberty and will have three years to gain weight. If that is the main concern than we are doing pretty well.

Sorry, I should have clarified that i think he's a great prospect and will be, if he chooses to be, the best QB bama has had in a looooooong time. I was pointing out that from a recruiting service's point of view... he's not physically ready to come in and start day one. Isn't that what 5 stars is supposed to mean... being able to contribute significantly as a freshman?
