AJ McCarron, the QB out of St. Paul's in Mobile, is one of Alabama's biggest recruits for 2009. He has had an excellent junior season, and has led his team all the way to the semifinals, where they play Friday night. Alabama really needs a big QB recruit and I believe AJ would fit perfectly into Applewhite's offensive system. AJ is teammates with current Alabama commitments Ivan Matchett, Mark Barron, and Destin Hood. I think this can only help us in landing this top notch recruit. Here are AJ's stats for this year compared to the stats of the top three QBs for the 2008 class, all of which are 5 stars. If this is anything to go by it seems McCarron should be a 5 star himself.
AJ McCarron- 124/203 (61%) 2,260 yds 24 tds 3 ints
E.J. Manuel - 137/244 (56%) 1,973 yds 15 tds 7 ints
Dayne Crist - 1,200 yds 17 tds 3 ints
Blaine Gabbert - 119/231 (51%) 1,523 yds 20 tds 7 ints
AJ has a higher completion percentage, more yards, more tds, and less ints than all of them. AJ is also as tall as all of them so that shouldn't be a factor against him.
