AJ McCarron Wins Grievance Against Bengals and Will Become Free Agent (Signs with Buffalo)

Re: AJ McCarron Wins Grievance Against Bengals and Will Become Free Agent

I wouldn't give up on Bills. His Agent was a former partner with Bill Owner.

Yeah and his former coordinator is the coach of the Browns.

It’s not over with the Bills but the intel coming out of both camps isn’t good.

Ben Allbright says keep an eye on the Pats if the price is right

Also a lot of buzz around Matt Moore and the Bills.

What happens if he isn't picked by any teams?

He remains an unsigned free agent. Pretty much anyone who wants him can get him, but if they don’t he won’t get paid.

FWIW I think he will get a deal, but I don’t think it’s what him and many Alabama fans thought it would be. I just think it’s the worst year he could’ve gotten out of a contract with the Bungles. Too many good FA qbs, with very few slots, and a big qb draft. AJ needs to evaluate what backup positions are best for him if the Bills pass on him.

Just too many veterans on the market.

I wonder about Miami? They seem unsettled.

Here’s my shocker: You sign with New England, And sit behind Tom Brady for the next two or three years. That’s the kind of offense that he belongs in anyways.

The problem with NE - when Brady retires, Belichick probably retires with him. Being the long term back-up with no real experience would not help him become their starter with a new coaching regime.

My brother (the news guy) says Boston radio reports the Patriots have made an offer to AJ McCarron. It is expected to be less than what
they pay officials but still lucrative.

2013 was my Alabama Zero year and admittedly this is the 1st year I've kept a little up to date with these boards in the off season, but AJ has a humility problem? AJ Maccarron? Two AJs AJ?

How, what, when did this all come about? My recollections of him were of someone who was both humble and grateful.

He knew to toe the party line in Tuscaloosa. Back in 2013 there was some insinuation that he instilled a seniority culture in the locker room that didn't jive with a lot the underclassmen. Late in his career his ego started rubbing guys in Amari Cooper's class and the class behind him (the Jon Allen and OJ Howard class) the wrong way.

Well consider a few things

1) when the dynamic duo retires, in all likelihood McDaniels takes over and he will need a qb, but is probably in a situation where he is too high in the draft to get one, or hasn’t developed one. If this happens soon then I would bet Kraft and McDaniels would give AJ the keys until they find one or AJ proves incapable of leading the team.

2) look at how many teams love Brady backups. Who would’ve thought Jacoby Brisset and Ryan Mallet would’ve had more starts than AJ at this point. They think Brady’s greatness rubs off on qbs around him because they know that Brady takes all of his backups to private camps in the offseason.

3) The Pats trade a lot. So he isn’t going to be dorked over like he was with the Bengals.

I think if the Bills indicate they are going to pass on him then he probably should swallow his pride and think hard on this deal. Because it has a lot of upside.

Well AJ has had an ego problem since he played at St Pauls. His high school in the past had a reputation of encouraging that type of behavior in Football and baseball. So he probably got it there.

At Alabama there are stories that I’m not going to get into that he had a humility check with CNS, and basically finally submitted to the rule of CNS and things went smoothly after that for the most part.

After the 2013 season, there was rumored interest by the Pats to get him in the 2nd round. Him and his agent decided to overvalue him on that notion and scouts and gms started to indicate that AJ was very full of himself during interviews.

Also he decided to get on a radio show in Alabama after we lost to Ole Miss in 2014, and put down CNS and say that there was no leadership on that team. Frank Tarkington publicity ripped AJ for that and CNS made him look stupid for saying it.

Yeah there is truth to AJ’s big head and big mouth. So it doesn’t surprise many people if he actually said “ I won’t be a bridge qb”

Another thing to consider, realistically AJ has ten years left as a viable quarterback option. There was a time when that wasn't the case. But with the advancements in nutrition, training and all the things these athletes do to preserve and prepare their bodies (also rule changes on protecting the qb). It's not like he has a three to five year window before he's physically unable to perform. Drew Brees, Brady, Rivers, Rodgers, Big Ben, and others are playing into their mid and late 30's and playing at a high level. In your scenario, if Brady retires in two years or less, that would give AJ an opportunity to be a starting quarterback for 8 years.

After reading about the situation with Garoppolo I would NOT want to be Tom Brady's back up. Ever.

Well Jimmy G is starting, and AJ is still searching for a job. Sometimes you just have to suck it up.
