I know we're staying pro-style but I imagine many of our tempo series will base in shotgun. The QB can survey the field better from the gun and you take out having to do the drop back mechanics in a hurried tempo repeatedly. I imagine we'll tempo people when they have bad personnel for a heavy package though.

Some of you need to take a box of tissues and go sit in the corner :) If Cecil Hurt likes the hire, I'm all for it...I could read CH all day.

Cecil Hurt on Kiffin Hire
Thanks for the link. I agree, Cecil is always a good read and he has a way to put words together that makes me feel a little better about the situation. I admit, I am dismayed at the possibilities that Kiffin can bring to Bama (most all of them bad). I surely hope Cecil is right on as he usually is.

Kiffin's meteoric rise from an unheard from OC to a face of the team HC led to many of the antics that rubbed several the wrong way. His hc stints were at Oakland, Knoxville, and LA...where else better to learn what not to do as a hc. Where else better to resurrect your career and learn how to be a hc the right way than at Bama under CNS ?

Hopefully that's how it'll be...trust in CNS...I do. JMHO :BigA::BigA::BigA:

Saban addressed the hire today at the AFCA convention. Link

“I've known him for a long time,” Saban said after speaking to approximately 4,000 coaches during an hour-long session. “I always thought he was a really good coach. All his issues come from something we're not asking him to do.”

I agree with Saban 100%! LK was set up to fail with the Raiders, who the heck has succeeded under that dysfunctional ownership? They make Jerry Jones look normal. The USC job IMO was another job where he was in a no-win situation. With the scholarship reductions it was nearly impossible for him to succeed much less provide what Pete Carrol did and have them on top of the mountain. The LA media didn't help matters either.

He is being asked to develop a QB and improve the offense, not handle the media and run the program. LK is a proven play caller and coordinator at USC, with the talent he has at BAMA, he should be able to focus on moving the ball/scoring points. I can't think of a better coach to keep him in line and focused on the end result than Nick Saban. I would think LK knows if he screws this opportunity up he might not have many more.....

Yes, but I think it's beside the point. His image problems come not just from failing at 2 out of 3 head coaching stops, but really (in my mind anyway) the immature manner in which he began his tenure at UT, and the impetuous manner in which he ended it. So far, he has been an unlikable guy ever since leaving Oakland. Had he been more humble in taking the reigns at Knoxville, and stuck around awhile as opposed to jumping ship a year later, I think his brand would be entirely different; not necessarily more successful in wins versus losses, but less in need of rehabilitation...

I agree, to the extent that I think that we'll be using it when we really need a change of pace...

I'm glad Saban at least acknowledged Kiffin has multiple issues that are potential problems. The only quote I saw from Saban about Kiffin until now was Saban pretending to be puzzled at the negative reaction to Kiffin's hiring.

The negative reaction was probably from the quote, "if you listen to the fans, you'll soon be sitting with the fans. Most likely we'll hear about as much from CLK as we heard from Coach Nuss. Ol Vern and Gary should have a field day with this, Verne-" he got fired from USCw", Gary- " yeah but he sure has a hawt wife". No disrespect mean't Mrs. CLK.

If Seattle OC gets a HC job you will see Kiffin Leave so fast it will set an air speed record.

i do trust CNS & overall think its a good hire because we will have to overhaul the offense with no AJ.

but this guy will be with Pete Carroll in the NFL one day, you read it here first.

Not if he wants to be a head coach again someday, however soon. I think he can rehab his career more effectively at Alabama than back under Carroll where the problems started, all the while still drawing (I assume) that substantial portion of his USC paycheck that exceeds his OC salary at Alabama. He's 38; time is on his side. If he's learned anything from his past, let's hope it's patience and maturity.

Kind of a left-handed compliment...
No it's not. Saban is simply reminding all the fans and media members that don't like the hire that Kiffin won't be a head coach. No one complained about Major Applewhite, Jim McElwain, or Doug Nussmeier's personality when they were hired. Why? Because they weren't head coaches. Too many people look at the Kiffin hire and remember his HC days rather than looking at the days of when he was an OC.

Yeah, I don't see that happening at all. Other than being very worrisome, do you have a reason to believe that?
