After Brantley was taken out of the game, I started to wonder how many quarterbacks we have actually faced this year due to the starters getting banged up or being uneffective. Here is a list of the teams we have played and how many quarterbacks attempted at least one pass against us (to remove any RBs that may have run a wildcat play).

Kent State - 1
Penn State - 2
North Texas - 3
Arkansas - 2
Florida - 3

Count 'em...that's 11 different quarterbacks in only 5 games. I know one of our goals this season was to get to the quarterbacks to disrupt them and in turn the offenses we're facing. I'd say we're doing just that...and then some.

Didn't Michigan State go thru 3 or 4 QBs before it was over? Wait, it was over in the 2nd quarter and the starter was still in there. So how do we count this one?

If I were an opposing QB and had to play against the Bama D, I think I'd call in sick! That's enough for a QB to have dancing feet while looking for an open receiver. It's like Oh _ _ _ _! Here comes #41 and OH _ _ _ _, here comes #41 again and Oh _ _ _ _ here comes #30 or 49 or 92 or et al.

It's not like they are trying to hurt anyone. It's just that they have a PURPOSE and that PURPOSE is to get into the backfield before the QB can think or inflict any damage on the D.

When our guys lower their shoulder, push off, and wrap up these guys... Stuff is gonna break lol. So far in the "big games" this year, I've noticed that our defense is sticking the tackle extremely hard. It's like the majority of the tackles could be highlight reel footage. Tackling technique must've been a top priority for coach Saban in practice before the season.

What we are seeing is a group of defenders who know how to wrap a player up and take him down, hard. Nothing malicious, just sound hard nosed football.

Actually, no starting QB has finished the game for 6 straight games. This includes MSU last bowl season. We have knocked every starter out of the game or either he decided he had had enough and did not want to come back in.

I am NOT trying to turn this into a which is better comparison or to hijack the thread.

The 92D I know put out over half the starting QB's they faced that year, but I don't remember exactly how many. Anyone remember off the top of their head?

One of the things CNS said early on when he first started his tenure here was something along the lines of "we want people to hate to play us." I'd think most of our opponents don't look at us on the schedule and say "Oh boy, I'm looking forward to this one." Best case scenario, you win but get beat up. Worst case scenario, you get beat up, lose, and have several players get injured. Neither of those two options are very attractive for opponents.

Just for comparative analysis the 2009 D knocked out 5 starting QBs in 14 games while the 1992 D knocked out 8 starting QBs in 13 games. By that metric the 2011 D is behind the curve.

I cannot recall the mane of the kid, but I read an interview once with a kid that played for Florida. I think he was a reciever. He played against BAMA when Shula was coach, and then later when Stallings was coach. He said that the Shula coached team was just another game, but when Stallings was there that everybody was banged up really bad after the game. It was a major difference in the conditioning, and how hard the kids were hitting. I would imagine that we are the same now. These kids are hitting like men.

I assume you mean Curry instead of Shula. I have a friend that played for Auburn during that era. He said that the difference in hitting between the 89 and 90 teams was daylight and dark. He said hitting in the 90 game was like hitting a brick wall.

I have that quote in my room.
