"Alabama Fixes Its Problem"

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

That article is spot on. Probably a little too brutally honest for some of the Shula apologists, but it's spot on.

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

good read...and pretty much dead on. you can count me amoung those that thought Shula would "grow" into the job. Count me amoung those that hoped he would "grow" into a good coach. But, count me as one of the ones that looked at the program and saw that this was as good as it was going to get under Shula and knew the time was now, not two, three or even one more year down the road to pull the plug on the experiment, pony up the money and hire a TRUE head coach.

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

Adds a little balance to some of the other articles being circulated.

I'm disappointed in Shula. I was wrong about his ability as a head coach. I will remember him for his last second drives against GA and AU. I hope this hiring process concludes quickly with a quality coach.

bingo

I am not too sure about his attitude of Shula taking advantage of Bama...Of course he took the job. Too bad he wasn't able to learn and grow into the coach we desparately dreamed he would. I still like CMS, but definately agree it was time for a change.

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

Glad to see somebody actually knows what this is about. Most of the other articles i have read today make Shula sound like Vince Lombardi.

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

Finebaum's twin no doubt.

I love it when the majority becomes the minority and then finds Finebaum's twin to back it up.

We'll take a beating in the national press and screw up recruiting if we don't get the "home run coach", delay our return a few more years but we get over it. Roll Tide!

I don't think you will find many discussing how great of a coach he was...just how good of a person he is, which I don't think there is anything wrong with in this situation. As to the article, is this guy ever going to learn what a paragraph is? sheesh...

(edit).on second thougt...to his defense....he did try at the beginning!

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

When I saw that headline I was reminded of the line from Office Space.
paraphrasing:
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, cowboy, nobody said anything about firing anyone. We simply fixed the glitch. Now it will just work itself out."

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

Thanks

That is an excellent article.

my 2 cents

Mike Shula was paid well to babysit our program through probation. Bama took a chance, hoped Shula would grow into the next great legend, but he just didn't have the qualifications. So give Mike some "atta-boy's", pat him on the back and say Roll Tide!

Shula was a combined 0-for-8 against LSU and Auburn and is the only Tide coach to lose four straight to Auburn. See ya Mike, have fun cashing those checks buddy.

There are good coaches out there without the MEDIA favorites. I dont want Spurrier or Saban, I might feel good about Stoops.....maybe.

I agree with Jess. ;) READ THIS and his predictions.

I'm excited about several coaches on that list.

The information provided on that page is superb!

Trust me, you wouldn't like Stoops. I'd look elsewhere.:rolleye2:

I don't see us challenging for the SEC-West next year. There is nothing material that supports that belief. Our secondary is going to be good, but we don't and won't matchup well against Georgia, Arkansas, LSU, etc.

I will be satisfied if we show improvement as the year goes along so that we can challenge Auburn for the state of Alabama (two things we never did under Mike Shula). :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2:

Yes it was brutally honest to the point some can not come to terms with. I really do not care about those people. I am not speaking of BAMA Fans but the clowns yapping about Coach Shula's dismissal. No one disliked Coach. But I certainly did not care for the non activity of correcting the poor coaching from some on his staff. It takes a special person to fire a staff member. If a coach can not do that when it is warranted then he has no business coaching. The article was solid bedrock. :BigA:

Shula is a great guy, a very likable guy! He just wasnt ready to be head coach at Alabama. We are doing what Florida did when they fired Coach Z. We are going to get a hot name coach who has some talent to work with. He'll have a winning season next year, exceed expectations like the 05 team, and BAMA will be back. It's so simple it's brain numbing!!

Re: "Alabama Fixes Its Problem" (link)

I've been thinking somewhat the same thing as the article states, most of this season, and felt guilty about it. Shula is a great guy, but he is not ready to be head coach at Alabama. He may never be.

I believe you could very well be wrong. Given that they hire a quality HC (whoever that may be) I believe we could very well compete for the west next year. Depending on how long of an adjustment period there is between the coaches and players, the talent will be there (assuming we don't lose guys early and what not, which is not out of the question) to give us the ability to compete at that level. All of what I say is subject to change however, and it could very well do just that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :biggrin2:
