..oh I assure you that you are correct. It's been noted by some Vegas casino's over the years that more money is bet on Bama than any other college team and I've had local bookies in Alabama tell me that they have clients who bet at least $500.00 a game on Bama no matter what the line is. I guess we bet like we play, we lay it all on the line lol...:)
I've heard Birmingham is the top city in the country for illegal sports wagering.

The one I remember best back then is the 13-12 Bama win in 1956 ending Bama's 20 game non-winning streak.

Edit: Bama was shutout NINE times in those 20 games. Scoring 13 was as big as winning.
Under Ears, I guess you had to take what you could get. Good grief, it must have been horrible being a Bama fan with him as the coach. My mother was in school during that time and she said it was really miserable. That man made Gene Chizik look like Knute Rockne.

I looked up that 20 game winless streak you mentioned. Alogn with nine shutouts, there was also agame where we lost 26-2, so that's half the games where the offense failed to score, though we did have a 0-0 tie for the only non-loss.

Msu will play Shula ball, so to speak, and kill the clock to keep it close. Mullen gets a moral victory and jumps ship for a better job at the end of the year. EZ game
I'm not sure Mullen even gets a moral victory, but maybe he gets the Carolina job at the end of the season and finally gets reunited with sCam. And hey they can acknowledge this time that scam does get a paycheck. Just kidding though. Mullen never gets a job like that.
Seriously though, the worst thing for MS is to have a team once in a blue moon that comes in to BD that Bama really takes seriously, like this year. Nuff said. That's my two bits about covering the spread. I'm just wanting us to have enough in the tank still for LSU the next week.

Over / Under at 48.5. I don't think it's extreme for us to win at 35 - 14 or 38 - 10. I think it'll be closer because I agree that MSU will try to slow the game down and limit our possessions, trying to stay close till the 4th Quarter. Kinda like what Troy did to them....

I want to be clear I think a moral victory for them is anything under 17 points. I agree it will be tough.

For us not to cover the spread, they're going to have to man up and really play defense. Look what we did with time of possession at UT. But yes they may be able to slow things enough not to have a shot at winning but keeping the spread down some.

But that's our type of game. If they are going three and out trying to slow the game down, it isn't going to matter what they do. That's playing right in to the hands of Bama's coaches.

It really makes no difference what the odds makers make the line,if it did then there would be no use even kicking off. This might be the game that we are over looking because of LSU the following week. I see trouble on the horizon mainly because we are not saying what kind of game plan it will take to defeat Miss. St. but rather how bad we are going to beat them. I hope the players are listening to CNS instead of reading their own press clippings.

I was only there one year under Whitworth. It was brutal...

Wow! 24 huh? This is why I don't bet on college football. I just couldn't see myself putting money down on odds like that. I'm not saying we can't cover it, that's just a lot to expect against a ranked, undefeated opponent. I might bet if it were 14 or 17, but 24???
I'm with you... we could beat the crap out of them 31-10 and not cover....

Don't recall anyone stating the line on this game would have any affect on the outcome. Since none of us are suiting up, instructing players, or looking through tapes with the coaches to come up with a game plan I'm thinking it's safe to discuss things like this. Besides its Monday we have 3 days until people start talking seriously about the game. Not attacking you cap but it's ok to enjoy Alabama's success before we have to get anxious about the game.

Yeah, I know but I hate to see us get over confident and it bleed over to the team. I trust in CNS to have their minds right.

We're facing a team that is undefeated, #11, 90 miles from here, and considers us to be a rival. I don't think the team will have a problem with overlooking MSU. They have clearly stated that they all know this is the best team we will have faced.

if us writing about things like this on a fan board can impact the teams preparation and performance on the field...then we have some really big issues to be concerned with...

I agree.
I'm fairly certain given Coach Saban's history that he's not holding an "Internet Down time" between grueling practices where the team can come in from the hot sun, jump on the internet and come to TideFans and read about how they're going to blow Mississippi State out, then head back onto the practice field and finish preparations.
Quite the opposite, I think the team (as others have previously mentioned) knows that this is the toughest competitor to date and we better show up and come with mean attitudes.

This is just a gut hunch, but I doubt we beat the spread. As noted above, the spread is designed to keep betting even so the Vig makes money. People would be placing all kinds of money on UA if the line was 14-17 points, and nobody would take State. I fully expect our first team to try to demoralize MSU in the first quarter, to prove why we're #1.

However, while we will not overlook MSU, we won't be running up the score either. As soon as we have anything resembling a safe lead, the starters will come out to keep them healthy for LSU. I'd guess we'll see a bit more wildcat, and a lot more of Kenyan Drake in the 2nd half. And we'll still score with our backups. Nonetheless, I suspect they'll get 10-14pts, but may squeak out 21 depending on how quickly we pull the starters.
