BREAKING Alabama QB Jalen Milroe to return for senior season

It is so difficult to correct a long throwing motion at his age. Look at Tebow, a complete physical specimen out of competive football.
Maybe, but someone (maybe crimsonaudio) shared a video of someone commenting on the quarterback throwing motions at practice. Milroe’s motion was much more compact in that video than it is now.

What effect will Jalen returning have on our QB Room?
My question is who will be #2?
My guess is a couple of guys might go thru the Portal.
Whoever is #2, I hope they get a little playing time, just in
Simpson or Lonergan will be #2 - probably Simpson. Sayin probably won't see the field much next season. That is a good thing as long as he is patient.

The reason JM has open receivers in the short passing game is because his dual threat ability impacts LB and edge formation/personnel/responsibilities.

Georgia ran dual spies at times. Have you ever even heard of that? I certainly haven’t.

Correct, Rees started using more designed QB runs, plays that had a run option built in and formations that looked like QB runs but were passing plays. That's what I originally said.

If Simpson does stay it let's me know there is a plan in place that both Sayin and Simpson are on board with. In this world of easy transfers if it weren't Simpson or Sayin would be going elsewhere.

The debate is that one particular poster is trying to suggest that Milroe is the greatest quarterback to have ever played or will play at Alabama , offering nothing when asked why the feel that way,and is taking kind of a smack talk kind of response towards anyone that disagrees slightly about it.

He got what he intended and it was multiple pages of people arguing and joining in on the debate.

I know, but if you just ignore the comments not based in reality, they lose interest in fade. You're not going to convince someone who is emotionally involved in believing Milroe is the best Bama QB of the last decade, so why waste the time?

I did not say JM is "currently" the best QB in program history. I said that JM will be considered one of the best QBs in program history thirteen months from now, after he wins back-to-back SEC and National-Championships (I also projected him to win the Heisman). My intention was to shift the conversation away from a disrespectful debate about whether JM “deserved” to start next year.

That's a big qualification, but it's honestly relatively likely to happen. If you look at our depth chart, JM has led one of the youngest and least-experienced offenses in recent program history to an SEC championship and a CFP birth. And they're going to be better next year.

What most folks are saying is that JM is not "more talented" than his predecessors. CNS has certainly had some very talented QBs during his tenure at Alabama. However, talent is not what defines a great college QB, and CNS has always prioritized leadership and competitiveness over talent at the QB position. The reason for this is because leadership and competitiveness are the best predictors of team success - a metric that (at Bama) is gauged by championships, not Heisman(s) or player statistics.

JM has proven himself to be both an elite leader and an elite competitor by overcoming an unprecedented amount of adversity throughout the course of this season. Remember, JM did not begin receiving a "starter's share" of first-team snaps until week 4, and for most of training camp, JM was sharing first-team snaps with TWO other QBs. Despite that, JM kept Bama in a very competitive game against the third best team in the country (Bama led Texas going into the 4th Quarter). Unlike BY, JM did not arrive in Tuscaloosa as a "gifted passer" -- like JH, JM needs first-team reps to develop into a great passer. This is evident from the fact that JM's development didn't really begin to take off until he began receiving the vast majority of first-team snaps, following South Florida.

In terms of talent. JM is projected as a top-15 draft pick in the 2025 Draft. Sure, that is speculative, but it's the closest thing we have to a professional evaluation of JM's "potential" in terms of developing into a precision passer. The question is do you think JM will realize that potential as starting QB at Bama? Based on his current trajectory, it would seem that's more likely than not.

Idk it’s like everyone who said we would three peat when Tua hit 2nd and 26. It’s weird that you didn’t hear much of that after Clemson beat us in 2018, but I guarantee you that many of them would’ve been talking had we won back to back. Winning football games is harder than what people believe. I’m not so sure we will win the next two games let alone next year. Are the odds in our favor… Mostly but it’s going to be tough.

My problem is that we have someone that is saying that Milroe will be the greatest quarterback in Alabama history after two games in which he didn’t play particularly great. Great when he needed to be but those performances aren’t really ones that suggest that Bryce, AJ, and Tua should expect company right the second. I think he could be in the conversation with a good next two games and a great second season. However at this point he is far closer to the Sims and Coker category than the AJ, Bryce, and Tua tier. Before it gets twisted… He is better than both Sims and Coker but he is still not the threat that Tua, Bryce, and AJ were passing and picking apart defenses.

It’s a testament to Milroe’s growth that we can even have this conversation. I think however this particular poster’s goal is more to stoke the fires of emotions and to start a fight. So it’s just another poster on my ignore list…. I was hoping to stay below 5 of those but some of these new posters….

It's very difficult to win back-to-back championships in college football. One thing that helps our odds in this instance, is that the CFP is getting expanded to twelve teams, so it's less likely that we will be excluded from the 2025 CFP altogether. Another statistically relevant factor is that Alabama's 2021 and 2023 recruiting classes are top-three of ALL-TIME (the 2021 is #1 all-time, 2023 is #3 all-time -- Source). There's a strong correlation between having multiple top ranked recruiting classes in the years preceding a national championship.

All that being said, my prediction is based primarily on JM. I obviously expect him to develop into a very special player. Time will tell.

Jalen is not on the Mount Rushmore of Alabama QBs and likely won't be when he leaves. But that is okay. Tua, Jones, Young, and a toss-up Hurts, AJ, and Bryce for the remaining spot. Milroe has a chance to be a better version of Sims as someone mentioned. His ceiling won't be reached at Bama. We will have to see it in the pros.

Your posts remind me of another infamous poster on here - dabaxter...

I don't know how right or wrong you are, but I do like your outlook! And hope you're correct about Jalen and the Tide going forward.

You’ve confused me here. Bryce has the only Bama QB Heisman. He is definitely on the Rushmore.

You listed BY twice. Is he competing for a second spot on Bama QB MR?

Over AJ who won B2B NCs? We have different criteria for evaluating QBs I guess.

Bout time Yall recognized his genius. It takes a lot for the quarterback to let the defense win the Super Bowl.

Most college football analysts have JM on their shortlist to win the 2024 Heisman. NFL Scouts have him projected as a Top-15 pick. Opposing coaches compare him to Lamar Jackson. JM reminds me (and others) a lot more of JH than Blake Sims or Trent Dilfer. Last time I checked, JH developed into one hell of a precision passer.

You old enough to remember Jamarcus Russell? He was more of a can’t miss Heisman winner and Super Bowl champion than Jalen Milroe.

Certainly. Rather than arguing about this, let’s agree to periodically revisit this debate as the JM story plays out. FWIW, JH and JM are very close and they acknowledge the similarities.
