We need a distributor of the ball....not an all or nothing superstar.

Bryce saved us bunches of times, but he still distributed the ball to the playmakers.
I think that dudes take was we did too little with the talent we had on offense in terms of offensive strategy and complexity.

Can you imagine Bryce or Tua in the new system with quick precise passes???

But I was thinking more about 1 vs. 5 last year with playmakers especially. We couldn't utilize the other play makers because we depended on 1 way too much!

Well, with Jalen's skill set, they'd surely want to add a new wrinkle or two.
I thought the goal was to teach each QB their Offense. From what I understand, they will not be running the Alabama Offense that we have seen for a number of years. This way the standard Defenses that have Defended our plays may not be the right call. The DeBoer Offense will included a lot of decision making that the Rees Offense did not require. The Rees Offense was over Simplified for Milroe.

There's always a wrinkle or two. I didn't say major change. When you have a quarterback who can gallop like Milroe, yes, you add a wrinkle. But it will be mostly the DeBoer /Grubb offense.

I was not a fan of Saban's approach to choosing Quarterbacks. It's like he just let them sort it out themselves. Sometimes we would be half way through the season before we really knew. You have all spring and all summer and all fall. Can we not figure this out before we start playing games? If we can't what is wrong with practice? do we need to take the black jersey's off and find out who's got the stones?

Yeah, I was always a bit confused about that process as well. For example, if Milroe was the best option then why couldn't it be seen in the offseason the offense needed to be scaled back? I find it hard to believe what we saw in the season wasn't able to be observed in the offseason, especially in scrimmages. Yet, it took us losing an unnecessary game against Texas and a total crapshow of a performance against USF to make material adjustments. I guess we'll never truly know.

That's all well and good but apparently Penix hasn't gotten the memo that the students are only giving him "three games" to win one. ;)

*The first highlighted sentence is one of the things that kept coming up about DeBoer when I was trying to find as much information about him as I could, whether it be articles or videos (aka J Klatt, Pate, etc.) Supposedly he is a VERY HARD WORKER and expects his players to be the same, and is one of those "over-prepared" types of guys.

*The second highlighted text confirms what I gathered from the videos I've watched of people breaking down the offense he's bringing to Alabama. Whoever wins the QB job is going to have to be good at the timing of a lot of these plays, which you could probably say to some degree about every type of offense. But if you watch some of the videos that break down this offense you'll understand why it is really important.

Why do you think that? Jalen is a smart guy. If the coaches thought like you, Jalen would have already gone through the portal. But he hasn't. And he's excited about playing in the new offense.
In response to part of your post:
What else is JM supposed to say?
I don't know if he can pick up the new offense or not. If he does then great and if he doesn't then at least he will give it his best shot.
I can agree with you on a couple of things w/JM: he seems like a very good "kid" and certainly seems like a good leader. I don't think those things can be disputed by anyone regardless of where anyone stands on his QB ability.

I like him as a person and leader as well. I'm really pulling for him to succeed. I'm not sold he can do it, but man with his physical abilities he would be a nightmare if it all came together for him.

Not with us, but it eventually all came together for Jalen Hurts which means it could happen for Milroe as well. Maybe this new coaching staff is what he needs similar to Hurts. For whatever reason I don’t think Hurts would be where he is now had he stayed at Bama even as a starter.

Sounds like he did not actually predict it out of the blue. Rather, he was baited into answering the question from a local reporter: can he win one in three years? He answered "yes". Gotta get that headline, though!

It may end up being true, but I'm pumping the brakes on the NC talk this early, and letting it play out.

Milroe is a good kid for sure, but his weaknesses are exactly what need to be his strengths to guide a Deboer/Grubb offense. He would have to pull a complete 180 on what he doesn't do well at all.

If he can do it then awesome.

We are talking a Blake Sims conversion from spring to fall...

After what I saw at A-Day 2014, I never would have thought the CFP would have been attainable.

True, but Hurts as a freshman was further ahead in knowing/reading/reacting to defenses than Milroe was at the end of his 3rd year. In the first season, Hurts was making a couple of reads on each play at least; typically the give/keep on run option, then the run/pass on the pass read if he didn't give. There were some instances of multiple pass reads as well, but that was kinda a growth area for sure. Contrast that to Milroe, who at the end of his third season, wasn't executing RPOs and was being told from the sideline before the snap if he should give or keep based on an assistants guess. Hurts in his 3rd year at 'Bama was getting through progressions and was miles and miles and miles ahead of where Milroe is now. The time at UO definitely put a lot of final polish on the skillset, but Hurts did make steady, visible progress in his 3 years. I think what kinda set Hurts back was in having to start the first season, and in having to have the passing game and read packages developed for him slowly (not a knock on him, there is a reason there are not that many true freshmen starters at QB), he ended up with a lot more trust in his legs (and rightfully so at the time) than his arm, and that stuck with him to the point that the next year he ended up running more than he should have, when he should have passed, and he had 4 first round receivers who were often open and not getting the ball.

He sees more of the field than you give him credit for. His problem is holding out for his primary target. Then holds too long. He needs to throw to someone else, when his man is not open. And that's coachable.
Agreed and well stated. If I had to make a guess right now, JM is absolutely the best guess as to who will start the first game. He has a full year starting experience in the SEC, won a conf title, led his team to the playoffs, had a surprisingly high QBR rating, and by all accounts proved himself to be an absolutely WONDERFUL teammate.

Why Bama fans want to come on here and berate a young man like him is completely beyond me.

Bty the way I understand and agree there will obviously be open competition at every position and it should be that way. I am just NOT ready to write off Milroe.
