We also really don't have time or patience with unrealistic posts... No one (to my knowledge) feels like we were ripped off during the non-winning years... 2016 through 2021 were all possible, but achilles, knee injuries, and some hot QBs knocked us out... we all accept that (again, to my knowledge)
So you dont think that winning the ship in 2013 was realistic?

yall don't know how to have a little fun and dream a little guys, cmon
Our program the last 16 years is everyone else's dream. We don't need revisionist history to make it even better. The game isn't set up for one team to dominate for a decade and a half consecutively with the trophy in their hand. We won as many NC's as we should have and the woulda, coulda, shoulda's can all go to everyone else and mostly Awbarn.

Post as much as you wish, that isn't for me to decide. My .02 is that this is more of an off-season topic and this board is filled with mostly sensible, knowledgeable, and realistic Alabama fans.
it was not me actually saying that Bama could have won all of those rings, it was me pointing out how close we really were.

I went down a rabbit hole and off the top of my head was listing results from previous Alabama seasons and the results shocked me of how close the Tide was to even more greatness. I will start in 2007...

2007: (7-6) with a win in Independence Bowl; Saban's first season
2008: (12-2) Loss in Sugar Bowl to Utah; Lost to Florida in SEC Chip
2009: (14-0) National Championship W
2010: (10-3) W in Capital One Bowl vs MSU; Lost to SC, LSU, and Auburn; this was one of Alabama's most talented teams under Saban
2011: (12-1) W vs Lsu in National Championship
2012: (13-1) W vs ND in National Championship; Loss to Johnny Football in Tuscaloosa
2013: (11-2) L vs OU in Sugar Bowl; Bama would have three peated if it were not for the kick six
2014: (12-2) L vs OSU in CFP Semis; SEC champions with loss to Ole miss early in season
2015: (14-1) W vs Clemson in national championship classic; Jake Coker overcomes early season Ole Miss loss again
2016: (14-1) L vs Clemson in national championship; SEC championship winner
2017: (13-1) W vs Georgia in National championship; Loss to Auburn in Iron Bowl and then Auburn got destroyed by UGA in SEC Ship
2018: (14-1) L vs Clemson in National championship; Two of CFB most talented teams ever faced off and Clemson pulled away
2019: (11-2) W vs Mich in Citrus Bowl; Loss to Joe Burrow and Lsu and then a close one in Iron Bowl
2020: (13-0) W vs Ohio St in National Championship; Most dominant season in Bama history
2021: (13-2) L vs Georgia in National Championship; Loss to A&M in regular season and destroyed Georgia in SEC Ship; Bama wins ship if Jamo does not get hurt
2022: (11-2) W vs K state in Sugar Bowl; Loss to Tennessee and Lsu led by Daniels in OT game
2023: (12-2) L vs Mich in Rose Bowl; overcame regular season loss to Texas; best coaching job by Saban ever
2024: (9-4) L vs Mich in Reliaquest Bowl; Deboer's first season

To Conclude: from 2008 to 2023, Bama arguably should have won the ship or been in the ship every single season and they almost accomplished that. Bama lost to Tebow in 08 which is the greatest cfb qb of all time... tough luck. In 2010, they ran into some tough games and lost a close one at SC and LSU as well as blowing a lead in the Iron Bowl... they had the talent to win that year. In 2013, I am almost certain that if Bama beats Auburn they win the ship, they would have destroyed Florida State. In 2014, they lost to Ohio State in the CFP semis in a game that they had a two score lead, the ship would have been tough but they lost to an Ohio State team that barely squeezed in the playoffs. In 2016, unfortunately, Deshaun Watson was a stud and outdueled Hurts, who did everything he could to try and pull out a win. In 2018, although the final score was a blowout, Bama had complete control of the Championship game against Clemson, and a couple crucial turnovers flipped the game. In 2019, they lost to LSU and the most talented CFB roster of all time; if Tua does not fumble on the opening drive, and get hurt throughout the year, the outcome is different. In 2021, Bama destroyed Georgia while at full strength in the SEC championship, but some injuries cost them in the rematch. In 2022, the gutsy call by Brian Kelly and one or two plays in the Tennessee game prevented Bama from getting into the playoff. Lastly, in 2023, Jalen Milroe completely exceeded everyone's expectations. After the Texas game, he drastically improved. A couple crucial turnovers in the Rose Bowl game prevented Bama from destroying Washington in the CFP ship. We could argue that Bama was a few plays away from winning 16 straight from 2008 to 2023
It is a game of inches. The undefeated 1966 team had an element of luck. Tennessee missed a chip shot field goal on the last play to lose. There are some losses I still have problems getting over but the 2013 Auburn game top the list and it was not the returned field goal that cost us that game. You are right about how competitive they have been. I say the bowl game against Michigan State in the 2010 year. That day they would have beaten anybody.

2013 -- what's weird about that season, the kick-6 just felt like (at least to me), was just not meant to be. We shouldn't have been in that situation. The team played horrible that game... there was just something off from the get go. So, when that finally happened, I just shook my head and went on. That one doesn't hurt me... 2016? That's another story...

That 2013 IB is still my weirdest reaction to a loss.

A younger me that had not ever experienced Bama having success nationally would not haven taken it well…lol

But by that point I had seen Bama win 4 NCs (1992, 2009, 2011, 2012) and had become pretty immune to the shock of AUs Pixie Dust Voodoo.

So as that final play happened I just sat there in disbelief.

My Dad was the same way… the living room was just dead silent except for my Mom asking us if it could really end that way (was the KR legal).

2016 I have mixed feelings about.

On one hand they cheated on the final play to beat us but on the other hand they near perfectly executed a gameplan to tire out our defense.

But yeah overall I don’t think about what could have been.

6 NC’s in 9 NCG appearances in a span of 13 seasons is unreal.

9 SECC’s in 10 SECCG appearances (9 Straight Wins) is unreal.

There’s never been a run like that and there won’t be another one.

Oh, don't let it get you down, it's just some good natured ribbing. The community here has a lot of history, a lot of football knowledge, and quite a few people with inside info. I hope you stick around and enjoy the site, in my opinion it's the very best college football site on the web. Just remember, no foul language and no trash talking – the mods here don't play.

Ditto.

You have to remember that game was played on the 28th anniversary of Van Tiffin's kick. Thing after thing went wrong for us in that game, but here we were with a chance. Yes, I knew 57 yards was a longshot, but your name lives forever if it's good.

I leaped up from the couch when he kicked it because I thought he'd gotten enough of it (I assumed he would miss it and was just hoping it wasn't blocked like the 2012 UGA game for a TD). When I saw it was "no good," mentally I was preparing for overtime, sorta exhaled and because it was now dark, turned back around and felt the couch end so I didn't sit on the coffee table. All of a sudden I look up and the guy is racing down the field. I was trying to figure out what the hell happened.

Remember - it took them forever (it felt) to show the replay.
And I'll be honest: I didn't even know you could do that.

It felt like a hard kick in the groin and gut at the same time, more of shock and disbelief than anything else.

I've never had that reaction to any other game at any time. Nothing even close.

Arguably, okay.

But just about every team that has ever won a national championship has been lucky SOMEWHERE along the line, too. Alabama's 1978 national championship, which was the year we lost the regular season game to USC head-to-head, can be justified in some minds because:
a) USC did have a loss, too
b) USC was handed not one but two games late in the year thanks to horrific officiating

Colorado got handed a Fifth Down but still needed a bunch of teams in front to lose.
Florida St only made it in 1993 because Notre Dame lost to Boston College the next week.
Florida only played for the title in 1996 because four-loss Texas shocked Nebraska.

Nebraska won on a kicked ball in 1997.
Tennessee won an early game (Syracuse maybe?) on a bad PI call and then needed a Clint Stoerner fumble when they were all but dead in 1998.

Nebraska only made the 2001 national title game because of 9/11.
LSU's 2003 national title berth happened because Boise St beat Hawaii and Syracuse beat Notre Dame and both losses pushed USC's strength of schedule below LSU's.
Was any champion ever luckier than LSU in 2007?

Ok, maybe Auburn in 2010......
Alabama needed Iowa St to shock OK State in 2011.
Alabama needed Ohio St to be on probation in 2012 else no repeat.

Ohio State needed Baylor to lose in 2014.
And dare I mention 4th and 25 with Arkansas or going for two in 2015 taking down Ole Miss?
LSU blew almost everyone out, but Tua's fumble and Burrow's tackle were the difference in 2019
Does UGA "really" win without two injured Tide wideouts in 2021?
One more play by Alabama and we probably make it in 2022 but a lot of teams would say that.
