Alabama vs Virginia Tech

Life in the SEC is different. Anybody can cause a blemish if you blink.

life in the sec is different from what exactly? Life in the big 12? Life in the big east? Life in the ACC?

I grew up in Mississippi until I came to VT a couple years ago. I know how "life in the sec" is and I can assure you acc games are just as competitive as sec games...if not more. Last year the sec was top heavy. The acc was a battle top to bottom. The sec is NOT different than the ACC in that aspect.

p.s. sorry if this message seems kinda rude...i get annoyed by ignorant people.

VTdom - The rude part of your message was the p.s. part... but you know that.

Other than VT, Ole Miss & LSU are the most obvious potential potholes. Rival games like TN & Auburn are also potential traps.

And ANY team we overlook due to overconfidence.

This is old news, but I figure I might as well post of the OL front. The two starters that we are missing for next year will be our center (Shuman) and one guard (Marshman) Interestingly enough they are our best and worst OL respectively. Marshman was ineligible to play in the Orange Bowl so a freshman Books started in his place(well kinda) Books actually looks very good out there so he should be an upgrade. The replacement at center will be rJr Beau Warren. He is the brother of recent graduate Brett Warren. Beau has been taking snaps sense he was a freshman and will be an above average OL for us. He probably won't be as good as Shuman, but he should be fine.

The three returning OL that we have coming back are Blake DeChristopher, Ed Wang, and Sergio Render. DeChristopher was a freshman and did exactly what he was supposed to do, become invisible. Sergio was all freshman ACC but hasn't progressed too much since he has been here. He will be solid but I wouldn't call him a stud. Ed Wang is a bit of a worry. He has started since he was a sophomore but still gets exposed frequently on pass protection. He usually goes up against the best DE from the other team and it usually shows. See FSU game last year.

If any updates come about the rest of the team I will fill you guys in. Despite having so many returners this Spring should be interesting.

Hello Everyone!, Another Hokie Fan here to give you some info on our team.I go to school at VT and I admire the classy forum you have here. In response to the Tyrod Taylor posts, I feel that he will have a bit more upside this year since this is NOW his team and isnt splitting time with Sean Glennon ( Who last Georgia Dome game, GAVE the game away to Georgia). Our starters returning on offense 9/11 and Defense 7/11. The thing I like to look at for our Offensive line is that most of them use to be TEs so they have decent footwork and are rather quick for their size. I think this will be a very good battle in the trenches and you couldnt ask for a better matchup for an opening game.

This guy caused some OLs some problems.

Welcome TyHokie!!

Wish we played VT in the middle of the season instead of at the start of the season. Hopefully our OL and QB will be ready to go.

OTOH, VT doesn't have a history of fast starts so this game should be interesting. Hopefully more interesting for the crimson & white than for the Hokies.. :)

this will be a classic matchup. two of the best coaches in football. teams that have a lot of pride. and the matchups on the field are similar. in this one i expect the two defenses to be the difference. they will both be aggressive and efficient. stopping the run for both teams critical. both offenses will have interesting game situations. i think both teams will need to have a passing game in this one. special teams is always a beamer plus. expect this game to be no different.

Honestly VT has a better offense and defense this season. Look how Utah exposed Alabama

Sure, be sure to tell all VT's players that too. They shouldn't worry about the Crimson Tide. It should be a cakewalk and you guys really need to look ahead to your tough ACC schedule. :BigA:

And I was the one accused of being, er, ah, oh yeah,,,, "uninformed". From the little I know about VT, they don't run the schemes, or have the personnel, to attack Alabama like Utah or Florida did. I thought they were more "create-space-on-the-edge" for their bread-n-butter. I've always liked CFB but I don't believe he'll change anything for just one out of conference game.

Pretty smart there fella. VT is better this year because BAMA lost to Utah last year? If last year's results are such a strong indicator of what will happen this year, then explain something to me:

VT lost to East Carolina (9-5), Boston College (9-5), FSU (9-4), and Miami (7-6). VT lost to four teams with a combined record of 34-20 (.630%).

BAMA lost to UF (13-1) and Utah (13-0). Two teams that were a combined 26-1 (.963%).

BAMA was exposed, but VT is obviously better on both sides of the ball?

QUIT USING LEAD PIPE WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR SHINE!!!

Yep, I agree - and give VT their credit as a tough, defensive minded team that will scrap it out with us in a game too close for me to guess at right now.

What gets me though is how often I hear folks trying to rationalize why Bama couldn't be better next year, nitpicking every perceived weakness of our team. We lost two games last year. It was an outstanding year. First loss was to the national champ and the second to the only undeafeted BCS team in the country.

We are incredibly young at every position and talented depth is being stockpiled at an incredible rate. Coach is building something special and I'm thinking the number 13... Here's to a good game with the gobblers!
