That is the one name that excites me when I hear it. He is a mean sob and will not take anything off the BOT, Fans, or players. Well, I guess I just answered my question. We know who is in charge down there right now......BOT

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

one word of caution: He'll bring his ego with him, and I'd be concerned that he'll take it with him when he leaves in 3-4 years for "bigger and better".

Unless he thought he could make it in the NFL a second time around, what would be "bigger and better"? :conf3:

Please name for me any good head coach with no ego.

With the new facilities and no more sanctions, Bama is a top of the line job now. This is not the same job that it was when Shula was brought in.

and wasn't there something with Saban and a recruit that wasn't exactly positive?

Look, and ego is one thing, but Saban's ego is as big as they come. Plus, isn't he currently employed?

I always think back to Franny wagging his finger in Saban's face after we clocked them good. It's a wonder Saban didn't have a stronger reaction.

Sometimes a big ego is needed to meet a big challenge. If NS and his ego can take charge of this team, instill some discipline, change their lackadaisicle attitudes and improve their performance, then he and his ego are both welcome.
I'm not so sure about him leaving in 3-4 years. He'll already have one of the most prestigious jobs in college football, and his tenure in the pros will keep him from wanting to go back there anytime soon. I think he has learned the same lesson that Steve Spurrier did. In fact, and this is IF he comes here, it may be his ego that keeps him here in order to extend the streak of SEC titles and NC titles to satisfy us, him and his ego.

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

Everyone at the University of Alabama serves at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees. Robert Witt is the executor for the BoT.

It is improper for the BoT to "obey" or even consider obeying the wishes of the masses. The logical conclusion of this insane activity would be a disaster.

The BoT must consider the best interests of the entire University for an extremely long time horizon. Therefore, it is incumbent on the BoT to ignore the cries of "we must win now" if they believe whatever they are doing is in the best interests of the University long-term.

So, why are you suggesting that the BoT shouldn't be "in charge?"

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

In case y'all have missed the last few weeks, Saban and the Dolphins are on a three game win streak. This weekend, they take on a struggling Lions team and have two straight division opponents at home. If the coins fall in the right slots, the Dolphins have a legitimate shot at the playoffs for the first time since forever.

Hey, I don't think that Saban would come to Bama, but if he did want to, I would take him in a heartbeat, even knowing that he would leave in 3-4 yrs. You know he would be a stellar recruiter, he would win immediately, and he would put Bama back in its rightful place as a perennial contender for the SEC. If he left after 4 yrs, the program would be in great shape and there would be plenty of good coaches chompin' at the bit to come in and take over.

The reality is that Bama may never again find that coach that will come in and win and stay for 25 years. There are too many options for guys out there, namely the NFL, and not many programs have those type of coaches who are there for the longhaul. The coaching carousel isn't always bad. It has worked at Miami in the past, and it would work at Bama if we could pick the right coaches.

I am not expert but I think believing that we are going to get Saban is just ludicrous. First off I do not think he will leave Miami and second I doubt seriously he wants to coach in the SEC. If a coaching change is made it will most likely be someone from a non-BCS school

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

Well word is he's wanting back in the college game already. Doesn't mean we have a good shot at getting him though. I'd think we would be high on the list.

They would have to win out, or at least win 5 of 6, to have a shot. They are 4-6. With games left against Jax, NE, Jets & Colts. They are done...

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

Sorry to disagree with you, but I live in the South Florida media market and in my opinion, he will not be available. The Dolphins are going to stick with him because it looks like things are starting to turn in Miami.

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

Saban is #1 on my list, but I don't feel too confident at the moment that we could land him.

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

Only a complete fool would quit in the middle of his first season in the NFL as HC. It would be one thing if he was stinking it up as a coach, but Miami's problems are obviously personnel-based, so there's no way he's being "run off" as it were. Not to mention, even if he were being forced out, he would never give up the $ and just kindly walk away.

Forget about Saban, won't happen.

He coached last year.

Re: Do we have a realistic Shot at Nick Saban??

In my opinion, the answer to this thread question in "NO"!!! I'm not even sure who the next coach should be, but I think this is all way too premature. Even though I believe the time is NOW for a change, I don't think it's going to happen.
