A Smith

He is not giving out hints.............but, the word on the street is he is Bama's to lose. This is just the opposite of TT who was UF
's to lose all along. UF did not win in the battle for he was going to UF unless they made serious mistakes in their recruitment! On the other hand, AS will be lost only if we ignore him as we did CS!

There is no chance that Alabama ignores Andre Smith I promise you that. There is absolutely no comparison between the way Bama recruited Smelley and how they are recruiting Smith. Today on CTSD Scott Kennedy said that he thinks Smith will sign with Bama.

I know some kids take their recruitment as an opportunity to tour the country and get wined & dined...only to stay at home when signing day arrives. However, I don't think I can ever recall a recruit doing this without taking an official visit to his hometown school.

Andre Smith may be the exception, but if he doesn't take an official visit to Bama, I don't think its a positive sign for the home team. Of course, he's been in close contact with Bama coaches for about two years now, so may be he does feel he has heard everything he needs to regarding the Tide.

This is definitely a tough one to predict. RTR.

He needs to commit

He needs to commit. I don't care if he takes the visits after that. By commiting, if he is going to come to Bama and he pretty much knows it, he needs to pull the trigger. It would only help his recruiting class. It might be that if he commits it could be the difference in a QB making up his mind when he sees the kind of line he will have the next four years. It could also cause other players to come and in turn cause other players to come. Hence the Domino Effect.

A Smith is not in a hurry to commit

But,I know we will hold him a spot. I really want this guy in crimson b/c he is the most important prospect left out there now. I am holding on hoping he gives Bama that last visit he's yet to give. I know he's been for many unofficials, but he would really get the royal treatment on an official and it could seal the deal. :p

I know he is just a kid, but if he could understand the impact he would have on the future if he would go ahead and commit to Bama and sway others to commit also. IMO he is hurting us by dragging this out. I have a gut feeling he will end up going to FSU. Losing Tebow was hurtful but losing Smith in our own back yard would be disaster. We have to lock down our in state players.

Have you considered he may not be sure he wants to goto Bama! Yeah if he knows, I think it would be great for him to commit and bring others with him. But don't know if a top lineman has the pull that say a top QB does. I Don't hear many running backs saying," man did you hear that top O-lineman is going to.... I'm going there to run behind him."

Pile on Recruits are more like recievers following QBs

Just a thought....I want this guy as much as anybody and hope to see him in Crimson soon.

How very charitable.

I am always a little confused when people get mad at athletes who use their leverage, when if they had and were denied the same leverage in the larger world it would be seen as criminal.

Imagine, if you will, that you are considered the best in the entire country at a high profile skill that very few people can do at all. Not only are you considered by many to be the best in your specialty, but you are arguably the best available prospect in the entire sector of the economy. Would you not, if people insisted that you needed to make a commitment before the deadline given, laugh and point out that you will make a decision when you feel ready to make a decision, and not a moment sooner?

I don't get the impression that Smith is jerking anyone around for kicks. He'll make his final decision when he is ready, and there is not a program in the country that wouldn't gladly make arrangements to take him if he chose them. His ability gives him the perogative to take as much time as he feels he needs. While it might be nice for you and me, and might even influence some other recruit if he committed earlier, his primary responsibility is to make sure that he puts himself in a situation with which he is comfortable and confident. He seems to be well aware of this.

Not that what we say here really matters, but were it me I might even be a little annoyed to have people nagging me to squander my options and rush to judgement.

I don't know where anyone would get that he will go to FSU because I believe that most experts think that it will be an Alabama- So Cal battle. I have heard little mention of him to FSU.

I can't find the link right now, but, I was reading a list of players who would commit during the US Army All American Bowl this weekend on either Rivals or Scout.com, and they listed Andre Smith as one of the players who was "considering announcing during the game".

Has anyone heard anything about this? I was under the impression that he would wait until late January or even NSD to commit. :conf3:

EDIT: Whoops, sorry just noticed a separate similar post by RTO.
