I find it particularly amazing how many people have jumped off of the "Fire Joe Kines" bandwagon this year and are now firmly seated on the "Anti-Shula" or "Fire Dave Rader" bandwagons. Last year these people knew all of our problems were because our Defensive Coordinator didn't blitz enough.

This year, these people know the problem is the playcalling, regardless of all the hell this program has been through. Oh, yeah, it's also the lack of time spent preparing the 3rd string quarterback all season long instead of focusing on the starter and 2nd string!

Apparently, Joe Kines really does know what he is doing and knows what is best for Alabama. And Coach Shula does too...by not firing Kines last year...by ignoring calls for Rader's head...and by ignoring radio call-in shows and message boards.

Come to think of it, isn't Paul Finebaum driving these bandwagons and, up until recently, the "Al Borges is a horrible choice for OC at Auburn" bandwagon as well?

Apparently, he was totally and completely wrong about both Joe Kines and Al Borges. So was anyone who jumped on those bandwagons, eh?

Now he's driving against Shula and Rader and the mindless minions are climbing on as always...you have to wonder, what makes these people so quick to fall for his siren song again and again and start flooding message boards with calls for Shula's and Rader's head?

The next question is, if Shula and Rader come around, who's the next bandwagon going to be for? Or against, I should say...

Bandwagon

I have never said fire CMS b/c I realize he is a work in progress, and will develope better in game day coaching. Let's face it guys he's learning on the job. IMO experience is a great teacher and you can only get it by starting from square one. CMS loves the school, recruits hard with class, and has good character.I believe thats enough for me.

Actually, I was on the "fire Dave Rader" bandwagon last season. I never thought that Rader was a good choice. Let me clarify again, that is the "fire Dave Rader" bandwagon, not Coach Shula.

Last season, even though we gave up a lot of yards, even a 4th and 19, and didn't blitz enough, I still felt like the defense kept us in every game, except for Ole Miss and Georgia. We gave up a lot of yardage between the 20's. We definitely weren't in games because of our offense last season.

In CMS' system...

Rader is actually the assistant OC. CMS is the actual OC and calls the vast majority of the plays. Rader's job is to relay from the press box the defensive alignments and make suggestions. In Rader's speaking engagements, he makes absolutely no bones about his role. But CMS calls the plays, exactly the same way SOS does. A "fire Dave Rader" bandwagon doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Rader is also the QB coach, and this year we have had not one, but TWO Qbs look totally lost. Remember that even Brodie never looked off the intended receiver, and as we saw in the SC game, neither Guillon or SP have been taught to find the safety, or to recognize zone coverage.

That's shoddy coaching that falls squarely on Rader's shoulders.

I read that Shula is out on the recruiting trail, and Rader is basically running the offense by himself this week. It will be VERY telling to see how our QBs execute against Miss State. If our QBs can't give a decent effort against MSU, Rader will never have them ready.

I think Kines is a good DC that will field good, and occasionally great defenses. I think Shula will be a good coach. Maybe not great, but we'll win a lot of games behind him.

Rader is the achilles' heel of this staff.

I realized this the other day as well when he agreed with a barner caller that said that Borges was amazing.

We'll see how amazing he is next year without a backfield.

You hit on a key point, TIDE-HSV. There are poeple who want to get rid of CDR, but I wonder who they think we can get? There aren't any "great" OCs out there who are going to give up the game day play calling to CMS. Personally, I'd like to see what CDR could do with our offense if he was given free reign to put together the game plan (with CMS' input, of course) and call the plays on Saturday.

Both...

CMS and CDR coach the QBs together. It's been beaten to death already, but 85% of the attention in the fall was given to Croyle, for two reasons. First, he was still worlds ahead of the next two and, missing the spring, he still needed work in the offense. A full 85% of the nation's IA teams go through the season with their starting QB. We just haven't been able to do it since '95. It was bit of a gamble. It didn't work. Whether or not I agree with it, I understand why they took it. Rader is CMS' right hand. He makes that clear around the state. CMS is in charge of both the offense and also the QB coaching. If you don't realize that, then you don't understand how this staff works. Email the man. Ask him yourself...

With all due respect, this is a nonstarter for a topic for conversation. Shula is our coach, and will be at least through the '07 season. We are all supporting him and want him to do well. Whether he does or not, remains to be seen. But I don't see anybody on this board prejudging him. There simply is no "anti-Shula" bandwagon, as far as I can tell. All of the Bama fans that I know are 100% behind Coach Shula, even though they may disagree with himn on smaller issues.

To echo TIDE-HSV's statements on the subject, Shula does not hand the offense to Rader and let him do his thing. This is Shula's offense, he calls the plays and Rader is OC in title only.

If Rader were running "his" offense, we'd probably be in some variant of the one-back spread. There's a lot more to this argument simply than looking at production numbers. It's too lengthy to go into every little detail on the subject, but the summary goes like this: Rader isn't going to be fired, and if he left on his own volition, his replacement would have to agree to be a QB coach only, because Shula isn't going to change UA's offensive system. Therefore, you can put away your list of hot young OCs, because none of them are going to dump their ego to play third fiddle to Shula.

I agree with you 100 % and if there were a bandwagon last year or this year, the people driving or riding them are "clueless".

Great point...NOT!!

Do most teams playing the 3rd string QB go out and light it up with 500 yards of offense. Please...I am ashamed I wasted my typing a response to such nonsense!

I think people such as the poster who started this thread create the "anti shula bandwagon" just to make themselves look good and to have something to complain about.

Unless I've missed something, I haven't seen much, if any at all "fire Shula" or "anti shula" posts. If anything at all you see people who support Shula but simply disagree with some calls he has made. I know this might be unheard of but you can actually support somebody but disagree with them on certain issues along the way. It happens every day with husbands and wives, parents and children etc.
