Any thoughts on Pearson interviewing?

He's our best recruiter and I'd hate to lose that, but his leaving would open a spot for a better X and O assistant.

As poorly as our staff has done the past few years in developing players overall and preparing them in the short-term to play competitive basketball, I don't see how the loss of any member of our staff -- whether it be head coach or assistant -- could be rationally viewed as a major loss.

That was kind of my thoughts. Not really knowing a whole lot about the staff on a singular level, other than Gottfried, I wondered if there was anybody that we really would hate to see go, or that might hurt us to lose. Thanks for the replies.

It's difficult to grade asst. coaches. Generally. the head coach chooses the offense and defense, practice drills,and has the final say on recruits. Unless an asst. is given a definite resposibility (1 that can be graded), it's tough to see what he is able to do.

I agree, but nevertheless the assistant coaches do have roles and jobs, and it's pretty rare to see a very good assistant coach on a bad team and an overall bad coaching staff. Usually the better coaches can make a positive impact, or avoid such situations entirely.

Either way though, regardless of all of that, the point remains that it's almost impossible to see losing Pearson as a major negative impact on our program. It's not like we can really get all of that much worse. In all honesty, you cannot get much worse than 17-16 and fifth in the SEC West. I doubt we'll be all of that good next season, but I highly doubt the possible absence of Pearson will have anything to do with it.

I don't think so. There are no T.R. Dunns on this staff.

Whatever the level of talent we have been getting the last few years, he is largely responsible for signing that talent whether coached up or not.

So, yes, it CAN get worse when you reduce the level of talent being brought into the program because you dont recruit as well.

The way I see this is that the reputable assistants in the game would not come to Bama because they know CMG does not have a stable program now. Thus the reason CMG promoted Kobi Baker to on-court assistant. CPP knows he's on a sinking ship and has been interviewing his arse off the last 2-3 years trying to find any job to get out of here. Remember basketball assistants dont make anything close to what football assistants make. Most of these guys cant afford to be out of work.

I look for us to make a NCAA tournament run next year with the level of talent coming back. However, after that I look for there to be a SEVERE drop off in our conference performance just based on the recruiting momentum and inability to assemble a quality staff.

If he is not careful, CMG may have to drive the team bus himself in addition to coaching.
