Any word on Tua's recovery progress?

I thought he said earlier that he felt closer to 100%. Hoping he’s just being cautious.

... Then in the 1970 bluebonnet bowl we wore all white while they wore red helmets/red jerseys.

To paraphrase "Casablanca" on who wore what, when and where: "We'll always have Houston - and Richard Ciemny's 20-yard field goal for posterity in that grey 24-24 tie on slime green Astroturf."

Does that mean it only hurts 15% of the time? Does that mean he's 15% slower?

I think he's either pain free or not.....if he has pain, then - is it manageable? Sounds like it is...... so I think at 85% or 100% there isn't much difference -- unless the 15% is due to fear of further injury.
I would think the 15-20% he's referring to relates to what Saban commented about - his side to side cutting. That eliminates or reduces the RPO. However, with their defense, Jalen's RPO should tear them up...

There's no telling what he means by this. Not as mobile as he would like? Can't run quite as fast as he'd like? I feel like if he can throw effectively, scramble (even if a bit slower than he'd like), and run with confidence, he should be OK. My biggest concern is him reinjuring something or aggravating a healing injury that would affect his play.

There were threads about starting Jalen after his last performance. Quite frankly, given a ball possession wear down the clock plan and the hopes of not getting Tua hurt....well, maybe I'm crazy but maybe Jalen starts?

That's not based on my love of Jalen, but instead looking at the best way to slow Oklahoma, keep their offense off the field, and avoid further aggravationfor Tua.

The question, in my mind is, if Tua gets hurt again and we win, can we beat the next team up with Jalen.

I think we can...

This is in answer to 81, also - I would not mind at all if Jalen started. There's a good chance, IMO, that they might find Jalen's game harder to handle than Tua at 80%. I'll leave that up to the staff. I'm often wrong... :D

I'd be shocked if Tua doesn't start, even at 85 pct. But I agree..I'd love to see Jalen start and if we can keep OK off the field and hold a legitimate lead..I'd save Tua for Clemson. He would probably be 100 pct by then and we need Tua against Clemson for sure.

Saban isn't into pulling too many "tricks," but I could see him trotting both out onto field for the first play before one runs off depending on how the possession is started.

I’ve seen plenty of this thinking since December 1, and from a strategy standpoint it makes sense if a team has an inferior offense and a superior defense, or a comparable offense and an inferior defense; but I don’t think any of us (or the media) assesses this game that way.

If our offensive production is similar to OU’s (as the data indicate), and if our defense is superior to OU’s (as again the data indicate), the strategy is to make the law of large numbers work to our advantage, and to OU’s disadvantage, by maximizing, rather than minimizing, the number of Alabama’s possessions.

Let’s say (and I’m making these numbers up) we average 4.25 points per possession (TD, TD, FG, punt, repeat); while OU averages 3.25 (FG, TD, FG, punt, repeat). After 8 possessions for each team, late in the fourth quarter it’s Alabama 34, OU 26; a one score margin easily erased by a turnover in our own territory or a successful OU onsides kick. Make it a 12 possession game for each team, and it’s Alabama 51, OU 39; a two score margin, insulating us from a freak play bouncing OU’s way and increasing the odds THEY press and turn it over.

It will be interesting to see if Lincoln Riley has strategy sense to match the youthful brashness of which we’ve seen glimpses. If he does, it’ll be OU taking the air out of the ball to keep ALABAMA’S offense off the field...

The problem is, if he reaggravates the injury. He’s done.

I really think we can win easily with Jalen as starter.

Imagine the storyline if Tua were to re-injure his ankle and Jalen were to lead us into the National Championship game. Be even crazier if he were to ball out (complete 70% of his passes throwing for 320 yards and 3 TD’s while rushing for 60 and 2 TD’s) in the Championship and lead the team to the title.

That might make the off season interesting if Jalen decided to stay. Would he have a legit chance to compete for the job in the spring/fall camp?

If we were playing an opponent with an average offense I'd agree but I think our offense must score on almost every possession in this game and Tua gives us the best chance of doing that.

Almost every team they have played scored at will on their defense. An Alabama offense led by Jalen would be the best they have faced. I'm not sure Tua is necessary given how bad their defense is.

We might just need Tua to light up the scoreboard.
If our line has a good day, they just might open a hole Tua could go thru on crutches.
Yep... Jalen is a healthier runner, but it's gonna take more than running to win.
