Anyone else a little let down with NSD?

Let down? Shoot,we're enjoying one of the greatest times in Alabama history.I think Bama signed a great class and just had a couple slip through.I dont think Coach Saban would ever do a 2 for 1 deal anyway,so not that disapointed about Allen. For 2011,the Tide looks poised to be #1 on signing day.

Ya Im not upset, feel pretty good about whats going on.

Look at the bright side Ore, we dont have to listen to the Barners talk the in state recruiting championship trash.....

Do you follow the Ducks and Beavs since you live here also? I think both of those schools did pretty good also......

I know where you are coming from as there was no NSD drama or big announcents. But diasappointment, no.
CNS has really changed the face of recruiting IMO in that he gets the big names locked in throughout the year, rather than waiting to signing day. This helps garner more attention year round and get other guys in as well. I'm glad I'm not sitting by the TV in anticipation for the Tim Tebows to tell us see ya!

I don't know about you guys but I'm seriously thinking about finding the nearest cliff and doing a cannonball because of my disappointment in this class. :rolleye2:

If anything when you look at LSU/UF both finishing 11th right after winning a title we should be happy that we were able to make a top 5 finish (on all recruiting sites no less). The DBs that we picked up will be outstanding and we definitely help fill the loss of Arenas, Marquis Johnson and Kareem Jackson by getting Milliner, Fulton and Belue. How can you complain about Phillip Sims either? I think he will be a gamechanger at QB one day and is a huge pickup. Then you have an overlooked player like Chad Lindsay that will most likely be a stud on the OL one day. You know you're spoiled when a top 5 finish is disappointing but hey it is a good time to be a Bama fan that's for sure.

I know this is a great class. We filled needs with fine young players and secured a top five class. Most teams would trade classes in a heartbeat.

That being said, I can't help, but feel a little disappointed. We didn't get that "sexy" blue chip player that I can't wait to see next year like Julio Jones or Trent Richardson. Philip Sims should be a great player, but is probably a couple years away. Saban has spoiled me with #1 classes the two previous years no doubt.

I really don't understand where this type of feeling is coming from? This class is great and I mean great. There are 7 HS signees that are already in school including two of the best players in the country Demarcus Milliner and Phillip Sims. Three 2009 grayshirts are now signed and in school and one JUCO from the 2008 class is in school. That are 11 players from this class that are already in school right now that will be able compete this Spring. Then you look at the other 18 signees from today. They are all very talented players and all but two of them will be able to be in school this summer. This class has more speed than we have had in a long while, which includes 2 RBs, one being the fastest player in Alabama and the other being a freak athlete. It includes 6 excellent DBs with size and speed. There are two excellent pass rushing DEs/Jack LB which has been lacking in recent years. One of the best LBs in the country that is smart as a whip. There are three huge OL that will be road graders in short order. A huge athletic DT that is expected to be a replacement for Mt. Cody. What is not to like?

Sorry, but I really don't get the I wish I could have watched a 'sexy' prospect pick a Bama hat. I actually like the fact that this class was completely done on Feb. 2nd and I didn't have to sit through some hat switching routine. The only downer about the entire class is what happened to Allen, especially how it happened.

Bottom line is the 2010 signing class meets the needs of the team very well and it is ranked in the top five by Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPNU. How can that be a bad thing or cause anyone to feel a little let down?

i think we did a good job this year filling all the holes mostly in the secondary, picked up some good RB's and a good QB for the future. We got some big LB's and i think Adrian Hubbard could be a beast once he puts some weight on, he's 6'6 227 dude could be an animal. And also i never put to much stock into these "rankings". javy was a 3 star, cody was a 3 star, i think mcclain was a 4 star and ingram was a 4 star. I think anders was even a 1 star. CNS knows what he's doing and how to develop players and what he's looking for.

CS... terrific post. One thing that is getting UA fans "down" is simply the fact that for once, Auburn is getting more positive pub than us today by several in the media. Personally, I don't look at it as "how did we finish"... rather, "how did we do?"

IF Philip Sims and Demarcus Milliner committed to us today rather than months ago, many of our fans would feel better... however, I don't know why timing is that important because the fact remains we still have them and we should be just as excited about their potential no matter when they commited.

It's not quite as exciting reloading as it is rebuilding. We put together two back to back #1 classes then win the BCS NC and anything "less" is somehow disappointing. This class is outstanding.

I won't pile on about the way you feel, its just a sign of better times for our Tide that things were wrapped up early. The word is getting around to these top recruits that this is one of the top places to play football and get a quality education. And if you want to get onboard, you best do it early due to limited space. Somebody posted the talent a couple of days ago that hasn't even touched the field for us yet, and very few this year will be forced into "early playing time". And that is a good thing. This class would have been the talk today if Phil Sims and CJ Mosely would have announced today, but really wasn't it better that they didn't yank our chains with the multiple hat routine on NSD. No it has been a very good day and a great year for the Crimson Tide. Don't be bummed out because of no high drama.;)

I'm a little let own the recruiting services are snubbing a couple of our guys to avoid questioning, but I'm definitely not disappointed in this class.

In many cases the stereotype fits like a glove. I've already gotten three phone calls from Bama fans that are sulking like a bunch of cry babies. It seems that some Bama fans never learn to dance in reality every now and then.

You know, "experts" say that the teams who consistently challenge for their conference titles are those who consistently place in the top 10 in recruiting each year. Three years, we've done better than that... and given what CNS's been able to do with 2/3 star guys, I really don't know why anyone would be down about a haul of guys that fills needs in a major way. Better watch it Nick... someone will be calling for your head soon.

Disappointed? No.

We had most of our class done before the calendar rolled to 2010, so the numbers really didn't allow for a big splash to be made on this day. In the final analysis, we just landed a consensus top 5 class and filled the big needs. Losing Keenan Allen stings but one player neither makes nor breaks our recruiting class. It might have been true in 2006 where the whole value of our class hinged in landing Andre Smith...both all those days are gone. We lost all 3 top corners and Saban responded by signing one of the best DB classes I've seen since I started following recruiting closely. We signed another Elite 11 quarterback and rounded out a nice haul of offensive and defensive linemen in a relatively weak year overall for linemen nationwide.

At positions where we had lots of playing time up for grabs, we reeled in the best group of players in the nation. We just didn't have that kind of opportunity available for many freshmen and maybe that kept Alabama from getting three straight #1 recruiting classes. Remember though that recruiting isn't about the analysis on National Signing Day but 1, 2, 3, or 4 years down the line. Some classes may already look much weaker by this August due to qualification casualties. Several of Shula's classes were hampered by star players never stepping foot on campus. Other classes may simply not live up to potential. I remember that Tennessee had a top-5 class in 2005 but today many Vols consider that one of the most disappointing groups they've had in recent memory.

There is a lot of evidence to backup how top classes equate to winning conference and national titles, but it's not a one-to-one relationship. Many might want to credit the class of 2008 for powering Alabama to a title...and certainly the title would have been impossible without many people from that class. Still, Alabama's backbone was built from the guys of the 2005, 2006, and 2007 classes who developed a good chemistry with talented players from a young #1 recruiting class. Real football is more than just fantasy numbers...winning teams aren't just talented, they play well with one another and mesh.

I would like to see a study made a few years from now of the attrition rate of some of these top classes around the country.

The point is this, that Nick Saban has already shown that he knows how to CHOOSE a recruit, how to COACH 'EM UP, and how to COACH 'EM ON GAME DAY. How do I know this? As they say in Louisiana, from THE SKINS ON THE WALL.

I don't KNOW this concerning other top classes around the country.

What about Mack Brown's class at Texas? You know how many national championships Mack Brown has won at Texas after being there ten or eleven years? One. And he has never won one anywhere else.

What about Bob Stoops at Oklahoma? One national championship in about ten years, and he hasn't won another one in about nine years.

What Nick Saban is bringing in at Alabama is what he was bringing in at LSU. His classes at LSU were so good that they sustained an additional national championship there, AND established such a precedent there that they have kept bringing in top classes. They weren't bringing in top classes like that before he got there.

We just learned how Saban does it. He puts them through a rigorous program described in a Saban-authored, 200-page manual. Even to get guys to commit to that means that he is getting tough-minded individuals. He is not bringing in guys who do not count the cost before they sign on the dotted line. My guess is that very few of Saban's signees leave, as is the case in other programs.

If you go through a schedule, heck TWO schedules, undefeated, you may wish that you had seen more fireworks, but what you DID see was one national championship won, and another that came close to being won. That means that the man at the helm knows what he is doing.

At Alabama we don't predict national championships, because we would rather not prejudice the situation. But I can tell you this, if ANYone ever had a chance at winning three of those babies in a row, it is the man at Tuscaloosa right now.

In all honesty, this is what we have been wanting to say for years and years guys. We aren't truly let down, we love the class we have. We filled needs, and got some fantastic players to fill them. I think what the poster is saying is that we didn't separate ourselves from everyone else like we should have. Coleman and Allen should be begging to play at Alabama. That is how I want it. Total and complete domination through the season and through signing day. We have to strive for that and remind ourselves of that. We should never settle for less, unless there is only less to settle for. That is my motto, and I am sure that Saban tries to live by that everyday.
