WTH? That can't be right... :conf2:And amazingly USC's Taylor Mays ties the 40 yard dash record held by Chris Johnson, granted it is still unofficial. He ran an unofficial 4.24.
Petrus did 45. Although Jeff Owens from UGA did 44 so that reporter might have been confused.I saw the video and from what I've seen, he was doing all the running drills on the field (40, cone drills, etc).. no bench press...
toward the end of the video, most of the analysts spoke very positively about Cody's skills and the one commentator toward the very end of the video did say Cody put up 44 reps in the bench press... I think that commentator is mis-informed - Petrus from Arkansas, I think, put up the 44 reps....
Yo. Chris Johnson speed with an extra four inches and 35 lbs.And amazingly USC's Taylor Mays ties the 40 yard dash record held by Chris Johnson, granted it is still unofficial. He ran an unofficial 4.24. Freak of nature.
That was his UNOFFICIAL time on his first try. Second run was 4.34. We will see what his official time is soon enough.WTH? That can't be right... :conf2:
I've watched him play a few times and in the senior bowl and if he legitimately runs a 4.24 straight line, then he only plays football at 3/4 speed...
Well they just simulcasted Taylor and Jacoby Ford, who ran a 4.28, and Ford beat him by a yard. Obvious error by NFL Network's stop watch man on that one. Waiting on the official time.Yo. Chris Johnson speed with an extra four inches and 35 lbs.
I haven't watched him play a lot, but I wonder how Mays would do on offense. I always hear how coverage is a weakness. He's crazy fast, he's huge. He might bust as a safety, but with those measurables, he's got to be used effectively somewhere...
This is correct. None of the Bama seniors lifted at the combines. Ro' (24) and Kareem (13) did, however. But it looks like all of the seniors will lift on Pro Day.LOL - some of you guys come up with some pretty elaborate stories....
According to the NFL.com website (and several other reputable ones, too) Cody didn't participate in the bench press at the combine and will wait till Pro Day.

It's the very last sentence of the article. Additionally, it explains how Javy tweeked his hammy toward the end of his first 40-yard dash and will have to sit out the rest of the workout and will try to be back at Pro Day.
Time is in...... 4.43. HUGE error by the timer on that one.Well they just simulcasted Taylor and Jacoby Ford, who ran a 4.28, and Ford beat him by a yard. Obvious error by NFL Network's stop watch man on that one. Waiting on the official time.
Yeah quite the gap there. That's still faster than I expected Mays to clock in at, TBH...Time is in...... 4.43. HUGE error by the timer on that one.
Man. Now, a 4.43 will seem disappointing after allegedly tying the combine record.Time is in...... 4.43. HUGE error by the timer on that one.
Taylor Mays could play linebacker in the NFL if he had to. Amazing talent he is.
Lol, that's what I thought of when I read that to myself.Did Yoda get on your computer?![]()
You don't have to apologize - the commentator on TV clearly said he did 44. He was wrong. I just knew if Cody had put up 44 on the bench, there would have been alot more made of it. All in all, he'll probably go in the second round, anyway, so it's not as if it really matters. When I'm wrong, I have no problem owning up, and it's looking like I was wrong about Cody's bench press. I've looked for the video or info to back me up, but I've only found info to the contrary. I could have sworn that I saw a video replay of Cody's bp on the NFL Network, but I was brushing my teeth and didn't have my contacts in, so I guess I saw another very large DL with braids while they were discussing Cody. My apologies.
Yah, he's a true physical specimen.I'd draft Taylor Mays on his measurables alone. He's not the surest tackler in the world. (He loves to hit, but fails to wrap up.) But that can easily be corrected on the next level. The mistakes he makes are small and fixable.
His coverage deficiencies are overplayed. He's definitely not weak in coverage; that's just lazy scouts assuming his relatively low INT total demonstrates some flaw in his game.Yo. Chris Johnson speed with an extra four inches and 35 lbs.
