Anyone notice the extremely short person on the Bama sidelines. (WATCH THE TEASERS!)

1. I believe the correct term, these days, is little person.

2. Yes, we have a young man on the team staff who is a little person.

3. Yes, his father was on Bryant's staff. He was present at the '79 National Championship reunion, the other week.

4. He is present at every single game - typically runs off to get the kickoff tee... like it's been said before, he is an incredibly hard worker and not just some sponge like a lot of those plains clothes guys on the sidelines.

5. Yes, he is a very nice and cool guy.
Indeed, the correct term is little person. I observed the young man on the sidelines, also. I mention this to my wife and wondered about a possible connection to a man I met in early 2006, as I was driving in a local neighborhood. I had noticed a little person wearing a Bama shirt raking a yard. That is not common here in South Louisiana. I stopped to chat. His name is Joe. His last name escapes me at present.

Joe told me that went to Bonnabel High School, in Metairie, and went with his friend, Tommy Wilcox (consensus All-American '81 at safety) , to Bama in the late '70s & early '80s. Little Joe, as he was known, was an equipment manager at the end of the Bryant era and the beginning of the Perkins era. On a thread of another forum, I discovered that he was a crowd favorite as he would retrieve the kicking tee.

His son, a little person, had equipment duties at Slidell High a few years ago. I believe I am correct, that his son is now at Bama following his dad's footsteps.

Dwarf, midget, leprechaun, I can't imagine anything worse than little person. But hey, I call people what they want to be called. So whatever, yo.
Does that mean that my great uncle, who is a dwarf, loses all of his magical powers now that he is just a little person? Just don't call him little to his face, you might loose your knee caps (his threat, not mine).

I had seen the current manager and wondered if I was having an age-related flashback to my student days in the '70s and just imagined Little Joe. I'm glad to have it cleared up.
