Best of luck to them and all, but you can't help but wonder when you see these deals if they would be better off as big fish swimming in the small ponds.

I told a GA Southern fan who was excited about the move that I hoped he like losing. They are going from a perennial championship contender to a cellar dweller in FBS.

I thought about posting this, but, besides watering down things further, how much does it matter?

I will make one point though, prior to the creation of Division 1, it was entirely possible to go undefeated and for that be completely meaningless, because everyone knew you didn't play any real competition. After they reduced the scholarships to 85, and not only lowering the bar but turning players away from the better programs, they created the Boise State's of today.

It is no longer automatic that these teams will constantly lose, because they are playing each other. Someone has to win even meaningless games. So, all this really means is more Boise State's in the long run... they'll sell out their 30K stadiums and whine incessantly when they don't make the playoffs.

Well, App State and Georgia Southern are more deserving than these programs that go from nonexistent to FBS in half a decade like UTSA and South Alabama. They earned their keep in the FCS and have some argument for deserving ascension into the top subdivision.

Still, this is just another example of the growing problem with the NCAA. They need to be relegating teams and contracting the FBS not expanding it. It's only antagonizing the power conferences and leading to a growing sentiment to secede from the NCAA in football.

I think Georgia Southern will do ok. They've got a tough offense to prepare/scheme for and it's not like they're joining the SEC. They won't get completely overwhelmed by the other team's talent IMO. In time, this will probably help them recruit slightly better players.
