CNN:

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- PepsiCo Inc. will spell out that its Aquafina bottled water is made with tap water, a concession to the growing environmental and political opposition to the bottled water industry. According to Corporate Accountability International, a U.S. watchdog group, the world's No. 2 beverage company will include the words "Public Water Source" on Aquafina labels.

Buying bottled water is one of the most ingenious scams in the history of business.
Scam? I don't think so. I have always known that Aquafina was essentially tap water. Heck, most bottled water isn't any better for you than your local water. But, if you have a well (as I do), bottled water is a necessity. Just be sure to get those floride treatments...

Its a scam when you think that they can bottle tap water and sell it for the same price as soft drinks.

i agree, it (the marketing around it) has convinced people that tap water is somehow unclean or unhealthy. i get a kick out of it. i already pay for tap water at my house and actually enjoy the taste of it better than any bottled water (i have lived in places where the tap water is just nasty and i had to use a filter).

i just find it funny that they have been selling tap water to people. maybe i could figure out a way to get people to pay me for air . . .

what really hacks me off is when i am not allowed to carry an empty water bottle into events (ball games, concerts, etc) and fill them up from the tap.

LOL - there is a commercial with a bear taking a bath in a pool, then a suggestion that "natural spring water" has bear poop in it. Advertising at its best...

Ten years ago if someone said that bottled drinking water would be a multi-billion business I would have looked at them like they had two heads. Never underestimate the power of a good marketing strategy, I guess.

Not meaning to be rude, but just make a point.

I don't want to come behind someone who is filling a empty bottle, cup or other container that they have already been drinking from at the water fountain. That is why resturants want the customer to get a clean plate before going through the buffet again.

would you rather them hold their mouths or hands near the water fountain? with the amount of germs you encounter in a given day (assuming you dont live in a bubble ;) ) the effect would be negligible if at all.

I have carried refillable water bottles around with me for 15 years plus, i must have made some people really sick.

I can see no scientific reason why filling a bottle from a water fountain would introduce more germs to said water fountain than leaning down and drinking from it.

"And a 13-year-old boy in an Oregon middle school has done a science experiment showing that the water in the lavatory toilets, the water in the toilets was cleaner than the water in the drinking fountains, to which every dog in America said, 'See!'" Leno joked on "The Tonight Show."
